On November 2, a group of thieves broke into Bobby Portis Jr.‘s home, making away with $1.5 million worth of luxury items—watches, bags, and more. The past few months haven’t been easy for him, balancing personal struggles with the relentless grind of basketball. But perseverance has its rewards. Now a key piece of the Milwaukee Bucks, he has found unwavering support from the fans. Recognizing his resilience, head coach Doc Rivers reflected on his own experiences while praising the authorities for their efforts in catching the burglars.

Ahead of their game vs. the LA Clippers on Thursday, Doc Rivers spoke to the media. Reporters asked for his thoughts on the federal charges filed against the thieves. Rivers Sr. had an honest confession to make. More like an emotional one to be precise. “How you saw Bobby handle what could be an incredibly trying ordeal over these last couple of months? And if you think this you know having charges filed will bring peace?”

Rivers said: “Yeah, I hope so. My son, back in LA, when they had that group of bandits in LA, my son’s home was one of them. Austin’s home was one of them that was burglarized. Still trying to figure out how he got on that list. You know, when you think about LeBron, uh, Taylor Swift, and Austin, I don’t.” The 63-year-old legend can’t understand why thieves looted his son and ex-LA Clippers star Austin Rivers’ home.

“I don’t get it, I didn’t get that with the burglar. I wanted to talk to them about that,” Rivers Sr. further added. “But, yeah, it’s an invasion of privacy. You know, you feel violated when that stuff happens. And you want whoever did it to be off the streets. And the fact that they were able to do that this quickly, with all these different people, uh, is pretty amazing. It’s great.”

Surely whatever happened with Bobby Portis Jr. in November shouldn’t have happened in the first place. However, big names like the Kansas City Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce were among the many affected by these high-profile burglaries that lasted from October to December last year. Seven men accused of comprising a Chilean South American theft group and stealing nearly $3 million in property from six athletes are facing federal charges. If convicted, the charges carry up to 10 years in prison.

With the burglars caught, Portis can finally put the ordeal behind him. Meanwhile, for the Milwaukee Bucks, good news seems to have taken a back seat. And, Doc Rivers might have more and more reasons to scratch his head. Giannis Antetokounmpo’s commitment to Milwaukee is suddenly in question.

Doc Rivers should be worried as Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future with the Bucks suddenly seems bleak

It was Giannis Antetokounmpo who gave a thumbs-up on having Doc Rivers as the HC of the Milwaukee Bucks. After their successful 2021 run, winning the championship, the Greek Freak surely took a big role in the franchise. And it’s safe to say, the Bucks revolve around Giannis. In all fairness, the 30-year-old loves his team and wants to stay here. But, if he doesn’t see sustained long-term success, he might look around for more options. ESPN’s Shams Charania dropped a major bomb on Get Up.

What’s your perspective on:

Can the Bucks keep Giannis happy, or is his departure inevitable despite recent successes?

Have an interesting take?

“Everyone knows Giannis Antetokounmpo loves the Bucks, but I’m here to tell you he loves winning more, and that’s why everyone in the Bucks organization knows what’s at stake this season,” Charania said. “They know the pressure, and every summer, when Giannis looks around and looks at the Bucks’ current roster, he looks at sustained long-term winning. He has always tried to make everything work in Milwaukee, even this season. They’ve gone out and gotten Kyle Kuzma. This is a team with Damian Lillard, Kyle Kuzma, and Doc Rivers.”

He added: “Giannis has been playing otherworldly this season. When you think about MVP candidates, he’s right up there with SGA and Nikola Jokic. But he made those comments a couple of years ago about failure and what failure means for the Bucks. In a lot of ways, this is championship or Eastern Conference finals. They haven’t reached that plateau ever since they won the championship in 2021. They do need to get back to that level to show Giannis that they’re building something sustainable.”

The Bucks’ shaky 2-8 start sparked trade rumors around Giannis Antetokounmpo, but those whispers have faded fast. Milwaukee turned its season around, now holding the 5th spot in the East at 29-24. Dominating the NBA In-Season Tournament, they went undefeated and claimed the NBA Cup. And through it all, Giannis has been unstoppable, averaging 31.8 points, 12.2 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game.

Losing someone like Antetokounmpo would be a nightmare for Rivers and the Bucks. And amidst the good news that Bobby Portis Jr. has attained his much-awaited justice, the clouds of uncertainty loom at large for the Milwaukee Bucks. What truly does the future hold for them and Giannis? Maybe, we’ll find out during the summer break, who knows?
