The Bucks are battling with a 4-8 record on one hand and uncertainty about Giannis Antetokounmpo‘s future on the other. The 7-footer statement, “If we don’t win a championship, I might get traded,” further added fuel to the fire. As their losses continue to mount, so does speculation about the Greek Freak’s potential departure. So, what’s really going on in the Bucks’ locker room? To offer some insight, Bucks star Bobby Portis joined the Run It Back panel.
Portis came prepared to face inquiries about Giannis’ potential trade situation, which he handled like a pro. When asked if it was business as usual in the Milwaukee hood, the forward responded, “Since I’ve been here for, this is my 5th year in Milwaukee, man. Every year I’ve been here, they’ve been talking about, you know, Giannis leaving.”
Portis dismissed it as simple rumors that get a lot of clicks. “Obviously, this year is getting more clicks because obviously, our record is what it is right now,” he said. The Bucks’ sloppy start has dropped them to 12th in the Eastern Conference standings, sparking questions about Doc Rivers’ coaching abilities. And if they fail to capture the championship, they know there will be a high price to pay.

Portis mentioned that the Bucks face constant speculations about whether they have the right players and if they’ll be able to achieve their goals. Amid all these, he admitted, “In our locker room, I think we’re kinda close-knit.” The 29-year-old further stated, “If your goal is to win the championship, then, obviously, pressure is a part of it.” However, he added that the team is focused on doing “something special” and understands exactly what they need to do to reach their ultimate destination. But Giannis’ trade rumors wouldn’t stop that easily.

Among the many predictions about where Giannis Antetokounmpo might land, The Ringer’s Bill Simmons added another one to the list. “The Nets are pretty good,” he said, suggesting Brooklyn as a strong contender for Giannis. “I think they can go all in for Giannis.”
Simmons mentioned that the Nets have a solid roster, making them a good fit for the 29-year-old. “People are going to ask what team makes sense for Giannis, and I actually think it’s Brooklyn,” he boldly stated.

Simmons went on to say, “They can just overwhelm Milwaukee with all these picks. I think it makes sense. Milwaukee needs to get out of this, and to me, it’s either Brooklyn or Houston.” A potential trade with the Nets could provide the Bucks with future assets, considering Brooklyn’s draft picks.
However, the Bucks have made it clear that they have no plans to part ways with their superstar. After Giannis’ explosive double-double performance against the Pistons, the notion of him leaving seems even more far-fetched. However, whether the franchise can hold on to him in the long run remains debatable.
