As we approach the midseason, the NBA trade rumor mill has picked up pace. And no one’s name is safe, as we now look into LeBron James, whose name has popped up in a very interesting scenario that would not be too pleasing for some. Despite a rough start, Bron has a great history in Miami, having won two Championships (2012,2013), and now there has been word going around that he might be back in the Heat.
Well, this is a case of “what if” Bron were to go back to Miami after ten years. When talking about this, the Ringer’s Bill Simmons, in a recent episode of his podcast, reveals that if Bron would even consider going back to Miami, it would happen only on one condition.
Miami’s roster needs to appeal to LeBron

Bill Simmons reveals that Bron could possibly go to Miami on one condition, and that is if the roster is stacked and unchanged. Miami needs to retain the current strong roster to accommodate and appeal to Bron, Simmons says. “Kinda do right by LeBron. There’s the symmetry of LeBron going back to Miami 10 years later. That’s kinda fun. If they could keep Jaquez, Caleb, Butler, Bam, Herro, & add LeBron to all of that. That becomes a possible favorite in the East.”
The Heat boasts a truly dynamic and reliable roster this season, and adding Bron to that mixture could give rise to a deadly team in the East. And Simmons can’t help but imagine this situation, “I had LeBron & Gabe Vincent ironically going back to Miami for Lowry & Robinson, maybe throw in Jović, & a future first. So it’s a little bit of a soury dump for the Lakers.” He adds that if this trade does go down, it would be the “Holy S***” basketball trade.
Why this can’t work out
To be realistic, this is just wishful thinking this is a highly unlikely scenario. Moreover, history shows that LeBron going to Miami hasn’t been pretty. The Heat right now is a well-put-together roster exemplified by the perfect blend of seasoned vets, talented young players, and undrafted gems. This has worked very well for them, especially under the guidance of an incredible coach like Erik Spoelstra.

Having LeBron here could throw things off-balance to this already well-established core that has carried the team for the past few seasons. This is not to say that Miami’s roster does not have enough talent to make a trade for LeBron. But the possibility is very slim considering that neither side has forgotten the circumstances under which Bron returned to the Cavs in 2014 after leaving Miami.
