Toronto Raptors‘ Jontay Porter is being investigated by the NBA. The inspection comes in light of a massive irregularity in his prop bets through the recent games. The Raptors’ recent game against the Sacramento Kings saw Porter leave the court for 3 minutes (illness). Similarly, Porter played 4 minutes on the January 26 game against the Clippers (eye injury). The NBA is probing and scrutinizing the increased pattern of Porter’s propensity to fall under on prop bets.

The NBA aims to verify whether Porter had a direct connection to any of the involved bets in the two games. While the former Memphis Grizzlies player is deemed out of the lineup, another instance of his potential scandalous past comes to light.

In early January 2021, Jontay Porter’s move inadvertently cost fans a sizeable amount of money. While the original source remains untraceable, through his Twitter, the player announced a Play Station 5 giveaway at a discounted price, prompting fans to immediately hop on the deal. Unfortunately, as it turned out, Jontay’s account was hacked, and the giveaway was part of a scam. Quickly after retrieving his account, Porter apologized to the fans and encouraged them to file a refund from their banks. Moreover, he also extended a helping hand to the fans who needed his direct intervention.

Amidst Jontay Porter’s declaration, his then-teammate Jaren Jackson Jr. hilariously replied “Nahhhh … I want my ps5,” probably resonating with the fans’ expectations. In a comical yet honest display, Porter responded by tagging SONY and requesting them to help his teammate.

While the fans chose to understand Jontay’s ordeal, some shared screenshots of their conversations with Porter’s compromised account. The original tweet has since been deleted. However, screengrabs reveal that the alleged offer demanded a low amount of $40.

What are the consequences if Jontay Porter is found guilty?

NBA players and all other employees associated with the league are barred from partaking in parlays at any league event. With that, if Porter’s gambling allegations transpire to be true, or if the league finds a course of impacting the bets, the Raptors player could face consequences as per the severity of actions.

Generally, such violations can invite fines and suspensions. However, if authorities find it fit, Porter could see a termination of his contract with the Raptors, with a potential ban from the league.

Moreover, the league has cultivated a set of data scientists, capturing questionable patterns and possible integrity issues. In adherence, however, players hold the right to endorse or invest in sports betting companies.
