The Warriors and Klay Thompson have reportedly broken up for good and they are beyond repair. While the Dubs Nation expected the 4x NBA Champ to change his mind before the deadline and re-sign, the Dallas Mavericks have stepped in between. Even though the Golden State Warriors expressed their wish to continue with the sharpshooter, they barely came close to meeting his demand. However, the Mavs, especially after the Tim Hardaway Jr. trade, may give new hope to China Klay.

Marc Stein, the trusted NBA insider, dropped a hammer on Dubs fans with a crushing update. He reported that Thompson and the Dubs front office have gone to a point where it has become an “irretrievable” relationship. Moreover, he also added the Mavericks have formed a “mutual relationship” with the star and could surprise the NBA world on Sunday after the free agency opens.

Klay Thompson switched on his ‘rebel mode’ right from the start of the year. During mid-January, the Dubs offered a $48 million worth of 2-year extension. The star reportedly declined it and also developed a “strained relationship” with the owner. Following that, he unfollowed the Dubs’ social media in the off-season amid the noise. The experts suggested the Orlando Magic as a possible destination for the guard.

While it seemed like a cakewalk for the Magic of the available cap space, the latest analysis tells otherwise. Roping in a star with a declining balling ability for an $84 million contract for 3 seasons won’t serve them well in the long term. Especially when they have Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner gearing up for max contract in the coming years. However, Luka Doncic & Co., after clearing up $18 million cap space through Hardaway Jr., can replace him with Thompson.

How will Klay Thompson fit in the Mavs fold?

The Dallas Mavericks looked like they would win it all until they met the Boston Celtics. Despite having world-class ballers like Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, the Mavs barely had any space on the floor. It seemed as if the Mavs played against 10 Celtics defenders. But that wasn’t the case. The only drawback was that the remaining pieces couldn’t create space.

PJ Washington, Maxi Kleber, and Tim Hardaway Jr. who were on the side to drop the odd three-pointers, failed to do it on the big stage. When the entire scoring pressure fell on Kai and Luka, the Celtics utilized the situation to their advantage. All they needed was a catch-and-shoot star. And, there is no better option than Klay Thompson when it comes down to a spot to replace Hardaway. Of course, the Dubs star went 0-10 FG in his last game. But, in the last 19 games for the Dubs, he has averaged 19.7 points.

Moreover, he showed signs of great ball movement with the rookie, Trayce Jackson-Davis. Especially when it came down to lob threat. And the Mavs with their twin towers, Dereck Lively II and Daniel Gafford, can have a field day on the court. Will the Mavs rope in Klay, pulling him away from the Dubs? Let us know in the comments.
