The Dallas Mavericks’ next matchup is against the Memphis Grizzlies. The Grizzlies are not at all looking good this season as they have managed to secure just 4 wins and have lost 13 matches. However, the Mavericks are missing out on their star player for this matchup, the Slovenian Sensation Luka Doncic. The absence of Doncic complicates their game, forcing the Mavericks to venture into unknown territory and adjust to a modified lineup.

Luka Doncic will be missing his first game of the season due to personal reasons, leaving a major vacancy in the Mavericks’ roster. In 17 games, the 24-year-old guard proved to be the foundation for Dallas, averaging 31.1 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 7.9 assists. However, his absence can also hamper his chances of winning the 2024 MVP award as he is one of the frontrunners for the title.

Not only Doncic but even the Australian guard, Dante Exum will be missing the game against the Grizzlies due to personal reasons. With their important players not being available, the Mavericks will need Josh Green, Jaden Hardy, and Seth Curry to step up, play longer minutes, and make contributions in offense and defense.

The Mavs have also noticed that when Doncic is sidelined, Kyrie takes up all the responsibility and shines. When he takes on the role of a leader, due to his experience and playmaking skills, he is able to fill in for the Slovenian star. So, the coordination between Irving and the Mavs is pivotal for their success against the Grizzlies.

What can we expect from the Grizzlies in this matchup?

Despite a shaky beginning to the season, the Grizzlies showed their promise in their most recent 105-91 victory over the Utah Jazz. Due to their exceptional defensive strength portrayed by Jaren Jackson Jr. and Desmond Bane, they restricted the Jazz to 37.8 percent field goal shooting. Jackson not only prevailed in his defensive duties but also scored 20 points, showcasing his dominance on both sides of the court.

In the previous matchup against the Mavericks, Bane and Jackson had 30 points each. Even then they fell short by 15 points and were unable to attain glory for their team. However, now as the key players of the Mavs are not going to be playing, the Grizzlies have a golden opportunity to take their revenge.
