Trash-talking is an essential part of any competitive sport. However, only a handful of players can live up to their trash talk when it matters the most. One of the biggest trash talkers in the league is undoubtedly Draymond Green. Having spent a long time with the Golden State Warriors and Stephen Curry, Green has earned a lot of accolades and can live up to most of his trash talk. Interestingly, he was once humbled by the great Kobe Bryant.

Not only The Black Mamba but San Antonio Spurs legend Tim Duncan also didn’t pay any heed to Green’s trash talk during his early years in the league.

If there is one thing that separated Bryant from the rest of the league, it was his mentality. Trash talk is the last thing any youngster wants to indulge in with the Los Angeles Lakers legend.

A young Draymond Green took the risk of trash-talking the five-time NBA champion. As expected, it did not end well for the Warriors superstar.

“On a potential game-winner, Mark Jackson put me in to guard him, and I got the stop. I said, “Yeah, I’m locking that s— up!” He looked at me like I was crazy and said, “That miss ain’t got nothing to do with you. Sit down.” I said, “Oh, s—! All right, I’m out”, said Green during an interview with ESPN.

Not only Bryant, but NBA Hall of Famer Tim Duncan also served the same treatment to Green. Known as The Fundamental, Duncan was the epitome of a calm and composed character on the basketball court.

“The guy I’d never waste my breath on? Tim Duncan. As a rookie, I tried talking junk to Tim, and he was like a tree staring back at me. [Laughs] No expression. I said, “All right. It’s over”, said Green during the same interview.

Thankfully, Green learned a valuable lesson through his encounters with the two NBA legends. He realized the importance of picking out your battles.

Bryant used his linguistic skills for trash talk

Just because The Mamba refrained from trash-talking on the court, that doesn’t mean the Lakers legend didn’t indulge when needed. Interestingly, he once shocked Jusuf Nurkic by trash-talking in his language!

During an interview with Sports Center, the Bosnian international revealed how he was once shocked when Bryant talked in his own language.

I’m out there like: ‘Nobody can even touch him, how is that possible?’ Whole night he was shooting free throws. He actually said a word in my language”, said Nurkic.
