Victor Wembanyama caught the attention of the NBA world even before he was on the first draft for the next season. Various aspects of his game were the reason behind this, including his height. The hype about him playing has only been increasing. But one veteran NBA player is now speaking out about it.

He has some harsh words for the media. The former Orlando Magic player played in the NBA since the late ’90s and then turned analyst post his playing career. He revealed his thoughts on why the media is hyping up Wembanyama.

An NBA player blames the ‘Bron Situation’ for Victor’s hype

In an interview, Tracy McCrady talked about the whole Victor Wembanyama scenario. And while doing so, he brought in the names of the other players who share at least one facet with Wembanyama – his height. He comes in at 7′ 3.5. He also spoke about Kristaps Porzingis, who plays for the Washington Wizards and stands at more than 7 feet tall.

He said, “It’s too much. I have seen this before. Y’all act like you haven’t seen this. That s**t that Bol Bol can do? He’s not just given the real opportunity. Like I think he should. That kid is skilled. Porzingis was highly skilled when he first came out. Just like that. And hell, He’s 7’3 too. I have seen it. The hype is just crazy.”

During the interview with GQ, he blamed the NBA media for the hype created and said that with LeBron James on his way out, they are looking for a face.

Wembanyama has been drafted by the San Antonio Spurs. While he has already technically played for the NBA by playing for the Summer League he has yet to play in the season.

NBA fans are now waiting to see Wemby play once again on the court. Victor has played two games, making a total of 36 points. Soon, he will be ready for the 82-game outing that’s the NBA season.

The hype for Victor Wenbamyama was out there for everyone to see when the tickets for his first game in the Summer League were selling for more than the normal price. With only two games out though, the fans are still waiting for Wembanyama to play a full season to see the true aspects of his skill.
