And that’s #18. The Boston Celtics have come out as victors in five games over the Dallas Mavericks, winning their first championship since 2008. The big party is at TD Garden but the online NBA community is not going to be left out of this one. Especially those guys with the blue ticks. These were the names who had their own predictions, some before the finals, and some boldly in the early regular season.

Those who saw this outcome coming – Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum – finally securing their finals win had a lot of feelings to pour out on social media. And you can tell what a series it was when even mega-watt smiling NBA’s representative hypeman, Magic Johnson is salty.

He was on X immediately but not with a congratulatory post. The Lakers legend who contributed five titles to the 17 total wins in franchise history is bitter that the Celtics have overtaken them. He wrote, “I hate that the Celtics officially have more championships than us now,” with an eyeroll emoji. This takes us back to when Larry Bird’s Celts gave him a hard time.

He’s kidding though. Magic can’t be a hater. He congratulated everyone in the Celtics organization from owner, Wyc Grousbeck, Coach Joe Mazzulla, and all its stars including MVP Jaylen Brown.

He also had the conviction to say he was right. Magic saw Celtics going all the way when they added Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis in the offseason. He sees this as a well-planned, well-deserved victory. And he’s not the only one.

Celtics celebrations overpower Magic Johnson

Unthinkable to not look at the guy who brought home the 17th title of the franchise, Paul Pierce who was rooting for his Celts from day 1. He was on X throughout reacting and was among the earliest to congratulate the Celtics after the game ended 106-88. And after surpassing the Lakers for most wins in NBA history, he had a cheeky message, “What can they say now.” The post was a take on Stephen Curry’s “What are they gonna say now?” after the Warriors win against the Celtics in 2022, also the year he finally won MVP.

With him is his 2008 ride or die, Kevin Garnett. He tweeted “LET’S GOOOO!!!!” with a throwback to when he and Pierce won the title. And KG’s “Anything is possible” still resonates in 2024.

Unlike Johnson, graciousness abounded in other factions. Chicago Bulls diehard and former POTUS, Barack Obama gave the Celts their flowers in a simple message. “Congrats to the new champs, the Boston @Celtics! 18 titles is no easy feat – well deserved.

But the best example of losing with dignity was the 2011 champ. Dirk Nowitzki saw his team in the finals for the first time since he won the title even if they didn’t win. He kept the Mavs nation uplifted writing, “Great run @dallasmavs Heads up!! We will be back!!!.” Unless Magic and his Lakers can help it.
