Luka Dončić has faced weight gain allegations, especially after his performance at the Night of the Dragon charity event, where fans and analysts noted he appeared wider than last season. Since then, intense criticism and trolling have erupted online, with claims that Luka has reached 280 lbs following his recent court appearance.

Recently, @PointForwardPro tweeted a clip of Luka Dončić with the caption, “The reports of Luka being 280lbs were greatly exaggerated. Here he is last night in Slovenia w/DA.” While Dončić is not known for being particularly muscular, as he has mentioned himself, it appears fans and the media might have been mistaken this time.

Even though he might not be in peak shape to start the season, it’s premature to label him overweight. This picture suggests that he could get into better shape as the season progresses. Although, while Luka has gained weight since his rookie season, it hasn’t seemed to affect his performance on the court.

Luka Dončić has been a great asset defensively this season compared to any other point in his career, with the numbers and eye test supporting this. This improvement came even after he gained weight, but that hasn’t affected his offensive game—he was the most efficient last season compared to any other.

Fans and analysts might want to reserve judgment, as Luka has consistently performed well on the court. Concerns of weight gain can be addressed if he fails to perform. Moreover, the tag of being ‘overweight’ has never appeared to bother Luka and is not a new issue for him.

Phoenix Suns fans are known for their aggressive heckling, much like the Boston Celtics crowd. During a game between the Mavericks and Suns, a Suns fan commented on Dončić’s alleged weight gain, which upset him. Dončić reacted by asking security to remove the fan from the arena. After the game, he also had a heated exchange with a reporter who questioned him about the incident, showing that he was still upset.

A few days after the encounter, Luka Dončić appeared as a guest on the TNT show with Shaquille O’Neal, Charles Barkley, and Kenny Smith. He was asked about the encounter with the Suns fan and Dončić used the opportunity to clarify what happened.

When asked about the duration of the fan’s heckling, Dončić explained that it lasted the entire game. The heckling added to his frustration because his team was losing and he had twisted his ankle in the first half. He admitted that his reaction was probably over the top and that he shouldn’t have acted that way, acknowledging that it was a tough game emotionally.
