If you even walk into one of the Ascension Coffee shops in Dallas, you will notice the tall glass towers that their baristas handle to make their famous Japanese iced drip coffee. Not only does it take 12 hours for the water to filter through, but the baristas serve it with a dash of nitrogen. And on the morning of January 7, Dallas Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison invited Lakers’ Rob Pelinka to the Ascension Coffee in the lobby of the Hotel Crescent Court. That’s where they discussed the trade that would shock the NBA community just a month later!

Yes, the Luka Doncic trade. The player isn’t exactly as calm as we think. Rumors suggest he has been ignoring calls and texts from ex-GM Nico Harrison. Doncic reportedly cried all night after learning he was leaving the Dallas Mavericks. Sadly, the 25-year-old Slovenian has to let go of his $15 million home, which he recently bought in Texas. Thank you, Harrison, I guess?

Finally, the day has come when the Los Angeles Lakers hand over their jersey No.77 to Luka Doncic. The star was at the Lakers training facility waiting for the media and the world to see him in his latest garb. GM Rob Pelinka and HC JJ Redick, who was Doncic’s teammate in Mavericks once upon, are here to welcome the star boy.

Meanwhile, a question, and an expected one, might I add, came from the crowd of reporters and cameras. “How are your feelings toward the upper levels of the organization? You know, Nico in particular. By the decision to trade you.”

As seen during his introductory press-conference on ESPN on NBA, Doncic stated: “Oh, I mean that’s their decision. So I have no comment on that. They made the decision. I don’t know why. So, that’s their decision. I can’t do nothing.”

Additionally, some rumors also state that the player turned down a supermax extension offer from the Mavericks front office. How true is this?

Doncic’s agent, Bill Duffy, informed the ‘Dallas Morning News’, that neither he nor Doncic or anyone in the inner circle indicated to the Mavs that Doncic would not sign the supermax and stay in Dallas long-term. “Not at all,” he said. “We were going to talk at the end of the season.” When asked about the same thing, Luka Doncic instantly replied: “Absolutely not.”

Other reports state that the Slovenian point guard was traded because the Dallas team was afraid of the supermax commitment. Doncic was eligible for a five-year, $345 million extension during the 2025 offseason, but trading him to the Lakers meant that he would no longer be able to avail it.

Did the Mavericks make a colossal mistake trading Luka Doncic, or was it a necessary move?

Simply put, the Dallas Mavericks decided on Doncic’s behalf and sent him to the LA Lakers. Besides, the 5x All-Star’s losses are piling up!

Luka Doncic loses $30 million in Lakers deal after turning unfit for Supermax extension…

Luka Doncic, now a Los Angeles Laker, was on the verge of securing a $345 million, five-year extension with the Dallas Mavericks—set to be the largest contract in NBA history. Instead, he has secured $215 million through a five-year deal, a sum enough for early retirement if desired.

However, by leaving Dallas (not that it was in his control), Doncic forfeited the chance for a supermax contract, which was a costly trade-off. While his off-court earnings in LA are bound to soar, his on-court financial potential takes a hit.

Luka Doncic, the face of the Mavericks since 2018, has been their most reliable star for years. Yet, Dallas stunned fans by trading him for Anthony Davis, with GM Nico Harrison justifying it as a defensive move. Meanwhile, Chandler Parsons has given a major update on the star’s personal loss.

According to Chandler Parsons, Luka Doncic was blindsided by the trade, especially after closing on a $15 million home in Dallas just a week prior. Speaking on ‘Run It Back’, Parsons revealed, “This dude bought a $15 million house, just closed, like, last week in Dallas.” He added, “Apparently, he cried when he found out.”

The sudden move left Doncic not just without a team, but with a mansion in a city he no longer plays for. Now add the (approx) $15 million Luka has to pay to California, which has the highest income tax of any state. That brings the Slovenian to a loss of $30 million!

First, you lose the team you’ve done so much for, then you lose the money. It’s not a good feeling for Luka Doncic. However, with this bittersweet feeling, he is about to begin his journey as a Laker. You can expect to see Luka Magic in his elements soon. So, watch out!
