Basketball fans have been truly captivated by the remarkable plays on offer during the 2024 NBA Playoffs. However, this also means that 14 teams have already started to prepare for the next season, and the Charlotte Hornets are among them. They don’t have a head coach at the moment. Notably, several coaches and former players are linked to the top job, with JJ Redick having emerged as a surprise candidate. It is safe to say that his NBA pals had quite a laugh when they saw him on court the other day.
Mavs’ superstar Luka Doncic took note of the links between JJ Redick and the Charlotte Hornets. In a video posted by Langston Wertz Jr. of the Charlotte Observer, Luka can be seen teasing Redick about the offer alongside God Shammgod, who couldn’t control his laughter. The ESPN analyst could be heard trying to divert from the topic, as he shifted the topic of conversation to the Mavericks’ big Game 4 against the Los Angeles Clippers. On a side note, this clip is also an example of the task at hand for the next head coach of the Hornets.
Dallas Mavericks’ star Luka Doncic and assistant coach God Shammgod teasing JJ Reddick about being tied to the vacant Charlotte Hornets’ job tells you all you need to know about how big a rebuild is needed.

What does the future have in store for the Charlotte Hornets?
After years of trying to compete for a playoff berth and failing, the Charlotte Hornets finally have a plan. However, their fans might not be too pleased with their direction. Charlotte’s front office had decided to either trade away or release veteran players like Gordon Hayward, PJ Washington, Terry Rozier, and Kyle Lowry.
On the brighter side, they have quite a few promising young players, including LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller, and Mark Williams. Plus, they’ve got a lottery pick in the 2024 draft. That means there’s a good chance they’ll add to their already impressive young core. However, the optimum utilization of this much younger core would ultimately depend on who they hire as the head coach.

Apart from JJ Redick, several coaches are linked to the job. The Hornets have already held interviews with Jordi Fernandez (Sacramento Kings), Chris Quinn (Miami Heat), and Kevin Young (Phoenix Suns). However, as per the rumor mill, the frontrunner is Charles Lee, who currently serves as an assistant coach for the Boston Celtics.
