With just one random move, the Dallas Mavericks found themselves cornered by the entire community. While fans were eagerly counting the days for Luka Doncic’s return to the hardwood after his calf injury, secret plans were being made to push him out of the franchise. And when the time came, he was abruptly bid goodbye. And one of the reasons for the decision was his weight gain. Enough were said and done, now the microphone was with Doncic to express his side of the story.

During his introductory press conference in LA, when he was asked about the criticisms from the Mavericks regarding his weight gain and poor conditioning, the 25-year-old said, “It’s a motive I know it’s not true.” That certainly raises multiple questions. But appeared like Doncic didn’t want to turn his pages backwards so, he shifted his focus to the Lakers instead. “Like I say, I came here one of the biggest clubs in history of sports. It’s a big motive for a long run here,” he added. Doncic wants to use the remarks from his former franchise GM as motivation for his long-term journey with the Purple and Gold.

Doncic had been struggling with weight gain, which reportedly became a major concern for the Mavericks. The team reportedly believed that 245 pounds was the ideal weight for him, while the Slovenian was around 270 pounds, fueling the franchise’s worries. When things continued to get out of control, GM Nico Harrison could no longer ignore the issue and called for the trade. But there were more things uncovered as the details were dug deeper.

Lakers reunite Luka Doncic with ex-Mavs employees

The Mavericks were not satisfied with Luka Doncic’s conditioning. The star had been suffering from injuries throughout this season as he never got the necessary conditioning. Head coach Jason Kidd also addressed his weight, but it never led to the desired outcome.

So, the franchise fired the former player health director, strength coach, and manual therapist, as things weren’t working out for the team’s star. Doncic was close to these staff members, who had been with the team even before he joined the Mavericks. As a result, he had to recruit new people last season for his body team from his Slovenian national team. But even that failed. With it even Doncic had to pack his bags from Dallas.

But there was more good news waiting for him in LA. Fortunately, the Lakers didn’t wait long to hire Doncic’s medical and training staff from the national team. The ex-Mavs staff will now focus on getting Doncic back into top shape after the heavy critical remarks. And hopefully, he will return to the hardwood soon as expected, and as he said, be motivated for his stint with the Lakers. Do you think Doncic will be able to bounce back and give a befitting reply to his doubters in the latter half of this season? Let us know your thoughts!
