Luka Doncic’s hot streak is over. The Dallas Mavericks hosted a Stephen Curry-less Golden State Warriors tonight. Luka headed into the game with 7 consecutive triple-doubles in previous games. Unfortunately, the Mavericks superstar’s triple-double streak ended tonight as he left the game midway through the 4th quarter due to an injury.

The Mavericks later reported that Luka would remain out for the rest of the game due to left hamstring soreness. Luka played only 30 minutes and finished with 21 points, 9 assists, and 3 rebounds. The severity of Luka’s injury is unknown, and it is still uncertain when he will return to action. That is devastating news for the Mavs because they cannot afford to miss the 5-time All-Star in the final stretch of the season.

While Mavericks fans were devastated by Luka Doncic’s late-game injury, they found comfort in knowing that his injury did not affect the outcome of tonight’s game. The Mavs had already secured a commanding lead against the Warriors before Luka got injured. Despite Luka’s exit, the Mavs beat the shorthanded Warriors 109-99. The Warriors were desperately missing their superstar Stephen Curry, who could have mustered a late-game comeback in Luka’s absence. Draymond Green was also out because of a back injury, further increasing the Warriors’ problems.

Luka Doncic’s stats in 2023-24

Luka Doncic has been Dallas’ best player throughout the season. He is having an MVP-caliber season, averaging 34.6 points, 9.9 assists, and 9.1 rebounds. The Mavs are 8th in the Western Conference standings with a 38-28 record. Their performance in the remaining 16 games can either take them above Sacramento or drop them below the Lakers. So, it is crucial for Luka to stay healthy and available for these games. The Mavs will face the OKC Thunder tomorrow night on a back-to-back. Hopefully, Luka’s injury is not too serious, and he can return to action for tomorrow’s crucial game.

Even though Luka could not score another triple-double, he did enough damage to help his team win. Amid Luka’s injury, his co-star Kyrie Irving played a major role in the Mavs’ victory. The former Champion scored 23 points, 10 assists, and 8 rebounds. Centers Dereck Lively II and Daniel Gafford also had a decent game. They produced on both ends of the floor, combining for 22 points, 14 rebounds, and 9 blocks. Dallas will need similar performances from Kyrie Irving and Co. in upcoming games if Luka Doncic gets ruled out because of his injury.
