Since Luka Doncic’s arrival to the Lakers, media has constantly bombarded him with questions about his chemistry with LeBron James and Austin Reaves. Well, the concern is understandable because the trio has not played many games together due to their injury woes. But it looks like the Slovenian star has had enough of the inquiry. After tonight’s brutal loss in Chicago, Doncic called out the media for sounding like a broken record.
When asked if there was a sense of encouragement to see Reaves drop 30 points alongside him and LeBron, initially Luka had a subtle response, “Yeah, I mean he’s great every game. Just we gotta figure out how to play all three together.” Then, he dropped the hammer, “You guys ask me this question every game after every game.”
Reiterating his original point, Luka said, “We’re just trying to figure out. We don’t have a lot of practice but I think it’s coming.” In their 12 appearances together before tonight, the Luka-LeBron-Austin trio had a -6.3 net rating. Of course, their three best players struggling to gel well together is not a good sign for the Lakers this close to the playoffs. The media constantly pressuring them with the same questions doesn’t make the situation any better.

Even after yesterday’s win against the Pacers, Doncic was asked a similar question. However, he had a far detailed response than tonight, “I think for me, it’s still a lot of work to do. I’m just trying to understand what those guys are like, what those two guys want. AR and LeBron have been playing, what, 3-4 years together? So, they know each other a little bit more. That’s gonna take a little bit of time but I gotta watch film and adapt myself to that situation.” Obviously, Luka being the new guy in the mix, has taken it upon himself to work on getting in sync with LeBron and Reaves. He is doing his best considering the shock he went through last month, as revealed by LBJ.

LeBron James sympathizes with Luka Doncic after shocking trade from Dallas
Last couple of months have not been easy for Luka. While he was believed to be one of the few untouchable superstars in the trade block, Nico Harrison shattered that illusion by sending him to LA without any notice. During his latest appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, LeBron sympathized with Doncic with an honest confession, “I can’t put myself in his shoes because I’ve never been traded before. But I can have a sense and be a human being to know: You commit to a franchise for seven years and you feel like, ‘This is the place where I’m going to be.’… And then out of nowhere, bam, you just get traded. I don’t give a damn where you’re going… That’s a shock to your system.”

Just like the rest of the world, Luka was shocked to hear about his trade. Even Anthony Davis had the same reaction as he too believed that the Lakers would never trade him mid-season. Meanwhile, LeBron initially thought the news was fake, “My emotions were all over the place. The first time I heard it, I thought it was for sure fake. I thought it was a hoax. People messing around or whatever.” It wasn’t until James saw Luka in LA and Davis shooting around in Dallas that he finally accepted the harsh reality.

Despite the initial shock, Doncic has done a solid job with the Lakers, averaging 27.6 points and nearly eight assists. Hopefully, he will also figure out how to work in unison with LeBron and Reaves and help his team win as the season progresses. Thoughts?
