The Dallas Mavericks‘ hunt to fill their frontcourt finally came to a close. After a long negotiation with the Washington Wizards to rope in Kyle Kuzma, the Mavs settled for another Wizards star. It is none other than the 6′ 10 center Daniel Gafford. One might wonder that the team might not have the biggest smile after not getting Kuzma, but the team leader, Luka Doncic, was definitely impressed.
Doncic expressed that Gafford was the player, he was looking to rope in for the last three years. Along with that, he also praised the 25-year-old blocking and rebounding skills. Apart from that, he also opened up another front court trade from Charlotte Hornets, PJ Washington. Luka said, “I think we’ve got two really good players. We added some size to our team. We add a backup center, which I wanted [for] like three years already. So, I think both players really going to help us out a lot.”

Over the last few days, the Mavs were in intense trade talks with the Wizards and Hornets to rope in Kyle Kuzma and PJ. A recent report clearly stated that the Wizards would require reasonable compensation and first-round pick in return, as per Marc Stein.
Unfortunately, the Mavs couldn’t afford Kuzma, but instead roped in his teammate Daniel Gafford as the back-up center. On the other hand, they got PJ Washington to further strengthen their front court.
In return, the team had to give up on their second unit guard, Grant Williams and Seth Curry, to the Hornets.
Now that the team roped in their necessary front-court players, let’s find out how the rest of the season will look like for the Mavs.
The Mavs’ road ahead in the season
The Mavs showcased their brilliance throughout the season, but they weren’t able to convert them big. The lack of height and defense was a clear drawback for the team. Currently, they are in the 8th seed with 29-23 record. After the inclusion of the new front court players, it will be an added boost for the break-out rookie Dereck Lively II and the two superstars on the side.
