Luka Doncic finally had to surrender to Giannis Antetokounmpo in tonight’s matchup. Scoring 40 points against the Mavericks, the “Greek Freak” proved once again why the NBA needs to “Fear the Deer”.

Luka Doncic missed a pair of free throws in the 4th quarter that lent Milwaukee the upper hand. Talking about the experience, Luka lauded Giannis for putting up such a great fight.

Speaking to the media post the game, the 4x NBA All-Star showed great sportsmanship when praising Antetokounmpo for his brilliant performance in the paint. “I think Giannis was torching us in the paint,” he said.

Both the teams had superstars rallying to get their team ahead from the start. Kyrie Irving and Damian Lillard started off slow before gaining momentum. The first half saw the Greek and Doncic give an equal bow-for-blow, with Giannis scoring 20 on 15 shots and Luka 17 on 14.

By halftime, the “Badger State” was lagging by 11 points. By the time they called for a timeout, Irving was also driving to the rim 7-for-10 on 18 points. But Dame-Time started late into the third quarter when he scored 17 points to overcome the 12-point deficit.

By now, the Bucks knew what they had to do. Targeting Doncic in screens helped them gain an advantage, while the weak defense in the paint gave them plenty of opportunities to take the lead. “Obviously, it’s really tough to stop him, but he was just getting into the paint a lot,” Luka added. But this is not enough to dismiss the former EuroLeague champion’s skills.

Doncic’s 2022 run proves why he is one of the top contenders

It was just three days after the miraculous Christmas when Luka Doncic showcased a miracle of his own. A 60-point triple-double against the New York Knicks. The only player ever to hit the same was James Harden, and even he cannot claim the stats put up by Doncic – 60 points, 21 rebounds, and 10 assists.

The OT boosted an aggressive comeback by the Mavs finally gaining victory with a 126-121 over the Knicks. Luka’s 60 points is his all-time career high that surpassed even Dirk Nowitzki at 53 points. Not to mention the highest ever by a Dallas player. Just another reason to fear the baby-faced Slovenian guard.
