Jayson Tatum and technical fouls seem like a perfect match. Last season, the Celtics star drew extra attention for his fouls. It’s a common part of any hooper’s journey, even for the greats. But Tatum’s techs? They come in waves. It’s almost unreal. Now, the power forward has a playful request for league Commissioner Adam Silver.
Tatum recently joined Bleacher Report Kicks for a quick rapid fire. The 5x NBA All-Star answered questions about his favorite artists, songs, and more. However, when asked about a rule he wanted to change in the NBA, Jayson knew exactly what he wanted. Without a moment of hesitation, the 26-year-old replied: “I would take technical fouls out of the game.”
Any reason? “I get a lot of techs,” JT acknowledged his frequent trips to the line.

Up until now, Jayson Tatum has lost $149,000 from his NBA salary. All thanks to his infamous techs, the Boston Celtics’ wingman keeps collecting it like Pokemon! However, the hooper has also never missed his opportunity to call out the referee for imposing an ‘unnecessary’ foul on him. According to the rule, the officials evaluate players’ actions on the court or bench if they negatively impact the game.
Thus, anytime Tatum feels a technical foul is unfair to him, he takes the matter into his own hands. The 2023/24 season saw the Celtics star earning several fouls to his name. And of course, JT didn’t like it every time he received one!

Jayson Tatum threw a jab at the referees for handing technical fouls vs. Cavs.
The Boston Celtics successfully eliminated the Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round of playoffs to reach the Eastern Conference Finals last season. But on the night of his team’s glory, 26-year-old Jayson Tatum showed visible frustration. The reason for his sour mood?
Game officials giving out technical fouls. Taking the matter up to social media, Tatum threw a jab at the referees with a Snapchat post. Jayson Tatum shared a photo where Evan Mobley’s hand rested on his elbow, confirming their play together.

The picture was from the first quarter of the game, and Tatum had just taken his first three. The forward captioned his post: “Then I get a tech.” Since the first quarter, Jayson Tatum had been having issues with the officials for not calling out the Cavaliers’ fouls. Then later, in the last minutes of the second quarter, the referee handed JT a foul.
With four seconds remaining, the hooper made a three-pointer against Darius Garland. However, he was not getting a call, so Tatum made a hand-wave gesture. This was enough to get a technical foul!
No wonder Jayson Tatum is so done with technical fouls. He once received a tech for hanging from the basket post-slamming a bucket for the team. So, we somewhat understand where his playfully honest plea to Adam Silver is coming from. Moreover, the Boston Celtics stars need to be a tad bit more careful this season, or else those fines keep coming like hot pancakes.
