It was in an interview with Gilbert Arenas last year that Stephen Curry declared himself the “best point guard ever” putting himself above Magic Johnson. And that claim sparked a nationwide Steph vs. Magic debate. Even Arenas seemed to side with Steph as he believed that the Warrior built a dynasty from the ground up while Magic was already put in a winning situation as a rookie. But months after giving Steph his flowers, Agent Zero has made another bizarre claim about the Baby-Faced Assassin, leaving many bemused.

In a controversial take, Arenas disregarded Curry as a generational talent despite what he has achieved in his legendary career, Steph is not a generational talent… Generational means you can’t mimic it… You can’t mimic Shaquille O’Neal’s body. You can’t mimic f**king LeBron James. You can’t mimic Wemby. Those are generational — it only comes once every — there’s only five or six… Curry was a great basketball player,” the former player said on Gil’s Arena.

Yes, Shaq was the most dominant player, in his prime there was no match for the Lakers legend. Even LeBron James has been a freak of nature from the day he stepped foot in the league. And he has only made that claim stronger, as he still dominates the league more than two decades later. And this season, the league welcomed another once-in-a-lifetime talent in Victor Wembanyama who, by his very nickname, ‘The Alien’ has been deemed a generational talent.

But Arenas believes that Steph doesn’t belong in the same category as these unique players, maybe because physically there is nothing that stands out about the Warrior. With his 6’2 frame, any player can match and even surpass the physicality that Steph possesses. But it’s what Steph has been able to do with his shooting prowess that makes him a generational talent, one that might be the hardest to mimic, regardless of what Arenas claims!

Gilbert Arenas and his opinions have been called out for getting worse

While Arenas doesn’t think of Steph as a generational talent, the NBA World seems to think otherwise. After hearing the former Wizards star’s bizarre take, one fan wasted no time slamming Arenas on X, “Gil really is a loser.”

Meanwhile, fans also started defending Steph with one claiming that he is a generational talent because he changed the way basketball is played today. More importantly, no one now has been able to mimic his shooting. While every young player today wants to shoot like Steph, only he can do it at a high level consistently. It is because of Steph’s shooting prowess that every team in the league today needs to have elite shooters to win.

Another individual, while making a case for Steph, criticized Arenas for his constant bad takes. Just a few weeks ago, Arenas was also seen publicly downplaying Nikola Jokic’s MVP victories, claiming that he didn’t deserve to win.

Sharing the same sentiment, another netizen slammed Arenas for his take. Since the day Arenas started his podcast and joined the media world, he has had several polarizing comments that have riled up his listeners. And the Curry viewpoint has done just the same.

Pointing out the flaw in Gil’s analogy, one fan questioned if MJ wasn’t a generational talent because Kobe Bryant successfully mimicked his skills. Playing the same position with a similar set of moves and nearly ending up with the same number of titles, Kobe was even deemed the next MJ. But that doesn’t deny the fact that Jordan was one of a kind.

By definition, “Generational talent” means a kind of player that comes around once in a few decades and possibly changes the game. Surely, Steph has checked all those boxes and exceeded expectations. Gilbert Arenas might need to reassess his take. What do you think?
