As the NBA trade deadline looms, the Lakers have to make a quick move. Records show that the Purple and Gold are not having the best season this time around. They have lost nine of their last 16 games, as they continue to struggle offensively. Plagued by injuries and inconsistencies, it is evident that they need to make some major roster changes. The Lakers need a fast fundamental role player who can run the offense.
And the name that often comes up as a potential target for them is the Hawks’ guard, Dejounte Murray. The Hawks obviously won’t give up their guard unless the Lakers can entice them with a good exchange. And as per sources, Austin Reaves is the one they are going for.

Rumors allege that the Lakers are contemplating getting Dejounte without having to give up Reaves. According to the Lakers’ Nation Podcast host Trevor Lane, “On the Lakers’ side, there may be the potential to do something without Austin Reaves….that sounds too good to be true.” If the Lakers can avoid putting Reaves in the deal, it would be a huge win for them. Trevor continues, “The market for Dejounte Murray’s services, given his contract, is gonna be too robust. I would be surprised, pleasantly surprised, no questions, if the Lakers can pull something like that off.”
The Hawks, on the other hand, are willing to put in more to the deal if Reaves is on the line. However, it looks like they would want more than Reaves in exchange for Dejounte. Conversely, the Lakers are trying their best to retain their 25-year-old star. They may, however, consider dealing him if a trade with the Hawks yields them a better deal, including Dejounte. The bottom line is that the Lakers need to be active in the trade market because they need to revamp their roster. Interestingly, the Hawks want someone else apart from Reaves.
The Japanese forward is under their radar
Although the Lakers are interested in Dejounte, they need to put some names in the deal to attract the Hawks. As per sources, the Hawks might give a green signal to the deal only if both Reaves and Rui Hachimura are included. Currently, the two teams are still trying to chalk out a possibility where both parties walk out of the deal satisfied.
Any potential deal between the Lakers and Hawks for Dejounte Murray would likely have to include both Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura.

Fun fact, Dejounte Murray is represented by the same agency (Klutch Sports) representing LeBron and Anthony Davis. So we can see some sort of internal support for Dejounte, and the Lakers, in this case, have a slight advantage over other teams pursuing him.
