For quite some time now, Bronny James has faced criticism regarding his entry in this year’s draft. Many believe he doesn’t deserve this opportunity, while others think his addition is justified. Although his resume wouldn’t typically be considered NBA-worthy, his recovery from a past cardiac arrest and subsequent performance have not been fully appreciated. In terms of his opportunity to play for the Lakers, some instances raise questions about Bronny’s position.
Recently, the Lakers and Bronny agreed on a four-year $7.9 million contract, including a team option. On the same day, they offered LeBron James a two-year $104 million max contract. Considering these transactions, especially James Jr.’s, other players on the roster also eligible for full contracts might feel sidelined. Brady Quinn commented on how Bronny’s draft and contract might feel to experienced players: “If you’re a player who’s on that roster, you’ve got prior NBA experience and you’re cut, you’re released, you don’t make it because he does. There’s an element of like, well how’s he been able to sign a contract that, you know, automatically puts him on the team. I guess that’s how contracts work but it feels like there’s something else going on here, it’s a little more fishy.” said Quinn.
Teams typically prioritize their assets when offering contracts. But is there frustration among players on the roster after Bronny signed his contract? Not exactly, as the rookie has yet to show his true potential. However, there’s definitely a point where players might feel left behind. With just a few days left for the Summer League, it will be interesting to see Bronny on the floor. JJ Redick’s role as head coach also comes into question regarding team dynamics. Redick has shown his passion for coaching, and the former shooting guard aims to guide players and lead the team to a championship. Coaching Bronny will be a part of that challenge.

Though guiding the rook alongside the current roster will not be as easy. The Lakers will have the spotlight for most of the year, considering their star power. This also brings massive attention from the media. However, the franchise has already gone through a rough phase for the past few years, as the upcoming season plays a crucial role in the team’s future. But how does Bronny contribute to their next run?
Is Bronny James capable of competing at the NBA level?
James Jr. may not have an impressive college resume, but he has demonstrated a strong work ethic. The hype during his high school years was significant, and his transition from a decent collegiate experience will be notable. While there is room for improvement, the Lakers gain a hustler on the defensive end. Bronny James and Dalton Knecht will be highlights this upcoming week in the Summer League.
Knecht, being older, can guide Bronny during their pre-NBA experience. Both seem confident as seen from recent interviews, especially Bronny. Despite recovering from his health issues, James Jr. gave his all playing for the USC Trojans, possibly sending a wrong message and leading fans to misjudge his freshman year stats. However, Bronny is aware of the doubters and their reasons and is excited to prove them wrong. Watching Bronny on the floor this Saturday will indeed be interesting.
