The NBA teams are opening their training camps to get the players ready for the upcoming championship season. The Boston Celtics are also preparing for the same. This time, they don’t have a familiar face among them. Known for his fun-loving antics and dubbed the “class clown”, the Celtics 24-year-old forward is with Luka Doncic and the team now.

As Jayson Tatum is gearing everyone up to focus on the championship, it would seem there is one teammate who misses the former Celtics star. The point guard of Boston, in a roundabout way, has mentioned a few comments that can be called affectionate.

Derrick White of the Boston Celtics seemingly misses Grant. According to The Athletics Jay King, White has said, “It’s a lot quieter without Grant … Life is good”.

He also praised Jayson Tatum’s leadership. Jay King once more reports that he is “one of the players who has stepped up his vocal leadership.” The preseason practice sessions are naturally important for the team.

Grant is known to be a jokester. A great example would be Jaylen Brown’s media day following their 124-104 win over the Nuggets in 2022. Going against Nuggets’ “Joker”, Grant said he wanted his nickname to be “Batman”. Brown said that if he played well, then he might consider conveying his request to the media. And he did. Williams held his own in the defense and did a splendid job of it. Luka Doncic and co. are getting the dose of “The Batman” now.

Derrick White meant no ill towards Grant

While some may find White’s comments to have a negative tone, he clarified that the whole atmosphere of the Celtics is different without Grant’s goofiness. Chris Fosberg of NBC Sports Boston provides more depth into White’s earlier comment, “Obviously it was a lot of fun last year with Grant and I’m always wishing him the best”.

With the spotlight on Tatum’s Celtics, the team is focused more than ever on meeting the expectations to win the championship. While Grant may have been a welcome respite after a long day of rigorous training, right now, the Boston Celtics are not looking to take a breather.
