The NBA witnessed some highly anticipated moments after the 2022-23 season. While the world eagerly waited for the Draft Night to see some exciting talents get drafted, the Memphis Grizzlies waited to find out the fate of their All Star point guard. And then came the announcement that gutted the Grizzlies fans. Their 23-year-old point guard Ja Morant was suspended for 25 games in the 2023-24 season for his off-the-court actions.

Ja Morant had an extraordinary season in 2022-23. The 23-year-old signed a whopping $193M contract extension with the Grizzlies at the start of the season. His team rose to the second seed in the Western Conference. He also received some strong MVP buzz in the initial stages of the season. While everything seemed to be going great for the Murray State alum, his antics earned him a major suspension. In a recent interview, a $10M worth DJ spoke about Morant’s actions, also talking about his foolishness.

At the start of the year, Ja Morant had everything going his way. However, his actions in a strip club changed everything. Morant was seen displaying a gun in an Instagram live video that the fans pointed out. This earned him an 8 game suspension in the 2022-23 season and was asked to go to rehab for his actions. He was also asked to pay a fine of $669,000. When the Grizzlies and the rest of the world thought this was the end of his antics, Morant did it yet again.

Just two months after his punishable actions, he committed the same mistake that earned him an 8 game suspension yet again. In another Instagram live video, Morant flashed a gun, this time, while listening to NBA YoungBoy’s song in a car. The 2 time All Star’s actions earned him another suspension, this time for 25 games in the 2023-24 season. He also had to pay a significantly larger fine this time.

In a recent interview, DJ Akademiks discussed Morant and his love for NBA YoungBoy.”Let me tell y’all how stupid Ja Morant is,” Akademics said, talking about Ja Morant’s actions.

He went on to add, “NBA YoungBoy’s new contract is like $40M, to record like five albums. You lost $40M trying to be like NBA YoungBoy. He need to record like five albums to get the money you just lost.

The $10M worth DJ had his say about Morant’s foolishness. However, he also shared what Morant could have done to prevent the fiasco that ensued. “Here’s my thing. You love NBA YoungBoy so much. Bro, just book him into a concert at your crib or you go to his crib,” he said. “He comes across like…they always say basketball players want to be rappers, rappers want to be basketball players but…I think in his head, he’s a thug, like he gangster.”

He further added, “I think he’s coplaying as like this gangster…he wants to be YoungBoy. Or he wants to be the perception of YoungBoy. So he listens to YoungBoy’s music and I guarantee if you ask him, he probably like YoungBoy’s killer. He want to be killer.”

Despite the Grizzlies acquiring Marcus Smart and Derrick Rose this offseason, Morant’s services are critical to the franchise’s success.
