Gilbert Arenas and his crew dropped a unique perspective on the Ant-Man’s dunk on John Collins. Last night, Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards turned the NBA world’s attention to his side with a space jam. A section of the hoops community called it Edwards’ best dunk and even termed it the ‘Dunk of the Year’. However, on the other hand, Gil’s Arena questioned the legitimacy of the dunk.
In the latest episode of Gil’s Arena, the crew, along with the special guest Sheryl Swoopes, a WNBA legend, debated on the dunk. After taking a multiple view of the play from different angles, the crew stopped at one in particular. Even though the play seemed like a thunderous dunk in real-time, in slow motion, it seemed like Edwards threw the ball inside the bucket at the last moment.
The crew didn’t have conclusive evidence to rule out the dunk, but Swoopes concluded it with a punch. She said, “I don’t care if it’s dunk or not, but it’s nasty.”

Indeed, it was nasty. Anthony Edwards had proved his athleticism multiple times in the past with various explosive dunks. Despite that, this John Collins dunk created a whirlwind in the NBA world. It could be because of the impact it left on the players immediately. After the dunk, Edwards dislocated his finger and, meanwhile, Collins exited the floor with a head contusion.
On one end, former NBA star Gilbert Arenas had nothing but joy looking at the dunk. The crew also shared the video of Ant-Man reacting to his dunk in the post-game interview. The Wolves star didn’t lose his flamboyant nature even in front of the camera. Reacting to the moment, Arenas said, “It’s fun cause’ it’s a natural reaction,” though some did not align with his view of the dunk.
Why was the Anthony Edwards dunk questioned?

Questioning the legitimacy of a dunk is an age-old tradition in the NBA. The viewers expect the player to drop the ball straight into the bucket instead of throwing it at the last moment.
There are multiple instances of similar debates that have emerged in the past. The most notable one was with Dwight Howard who happens to have 2950 career-dunks. During his iconic Superman dunk in the 2008 dunk contest, there was a huge debate. Even though Howard put in a lot of creativity into his performance, the star ultimately threw the ball in.

Nevertheless, this kind of debate may seem worth discussing in a dunk contest, but in a regular season game, it hardly makes any difference. Do you think the dunk’s legitimacy should be discussed? Let us know in the comments.
