“We need to start calling Zion [Williamson] ‘Pajamas’ because he’s just as worse.” It was only a few weeks ago when the Pels star was roasted by Kendrick Lamar over his lack of availability. The player raised some hope amongst fans after he appeared in 70 games last season. Now, however, injury concerns have caused Zion to return to his old ways. Out of the 30 games the New Orleans side has played, the star has only featured in 6! The situation has reached such a level that Williamson is now getting roasted over his absences.
Earlier today, the 24-year-old did not play but still attended the matchup between the New Orleans Pelicans and the New York Knicks. As the game was set to go underway, commentator Mike Breen was touching base on the Pels’ previous performances. The team is currently dealing with the worst record out of all other franchises during the ongoing season, 5-24, after losing against the Knicks.
As the camera panned towards Zion Willamson, however, Breen, seemingly naively roasted the player while trying to explain his situation, stating, “Zion Williamson in a familiar spot, on the bench in street clothes.” Ouch!

As of now, Zion Williamson has not chosen to react. However, this still didn’t stop others from giving their two cents.
How did fans react to Mike Breen’s dig at Zion Williamson?
One social media user wrote, “Wow, seriously this made my day. Thank you!”
If Zion Williamson has heard Breen’s words, then he shouldn’t feel too bad. After all, he wasn’t the first person at whom Mike took a shot. Back in January, the 63-year-old took a dig at Doc Rivers. The now-Bucks coach was previously an analyst for ESPN and Breen’s colleague. However, his stint with the network was short-lived, as he left to join the Bucks. Looking to roast Rivers over the same, Breen thanked him for his “many weeks of service”.
One individual found the criticism relatable. He wrote, “Mike Breen said what everyone is thinking”, accompanied by a laughing emoji. This indicates that Zion Williamson’s absences have already made people frustrated. From KDot’s remarks to Riot Comedy parodying Williamson as ‘Jabba the Hut’, jokes about him on the bench are running rampant.
Unfortunately, his troubles with the hamstring problem are far from getting over anytime soon. Therefore, let’s hope that Zion Williamson has already prepared himself to deal with the flurry of jokes. If not, then he very well should do it now!

One commenter used Mike Breen’s remarks to highlight his own criticism about the 24-year-old player. He wrote, “Nah Zion’s familiar spot is at the buffet”.
This was a reference to the criticism about Zion’s weight. The same has continued to exist for a while. It was only last year when Charles Barkley used it in his own criticism of the player. Despite the Pelicans defeating the Kings by a 127-117 score, the legend took a dig at Williamson, stating, “He plays the game strictly on talent. He never runs on the fastbreak, he’s kind of like jogging. Somebody is got to get a hold of him…I don’t know if he has a Moses Malone who told me I was ‘fat and lazy’…He needs to get in shape.”
One individual praised the commentator. They wrote, “This is why Mike Breen is the Goat”. He accompanied that remark with a goat and a laughing emoji.Mike Breen is an individual who continues to stay relevant after 25+ years in the field. He has generated a fan base probably equal to some of the players whose games he calls. One of his most memorable moments recently took place as the Knicks competed against the 76ers in the first round of the 2024 playoffs. A three-pointer was pulled out by Donte DiVincenzo during clutch time, and Breen exclaimed, “DiVincenzo a three… BANG! BANG!!!! Knicks take a 1 point lead with 13 seconds remaining!! THE GARDEN IS SHAKING RIGHT NOW!” The remarks earned him praise from several fans on social media.

Another individual showed some love to Mike Breen, stating, “Really enjoy your vibe, this is so refreshing. Keep it up!” Well, no one stays in the commentator role for so long without knowing how to entertain his audience. Breen has consistently shown that he does and, with no retirement plans made public yet, he may continue doing so.
The majority of reactions highlighted praise for Mike Breen, while the others took a dig at Zion Williamson. The player still has the chance to shut down critics by returning soon. However, with the Pels holding a 5-25 win record, some might wonder if it is too late.
