Kawhi and PG reuniting at a club—Is this a sign of something bigger brewing in the NBA?

With Kawhi Leonard withdrawing his name from Team USA and canceling his trip to Paris at the last second, fans were left a bit disappointed. Surely, everyone would have loved to see the two-time champ back in action, as he missed almost the entire playoffs this year because of a lingering knee injury. However, Team USA and the Clippers determined that it was in Kawhi’s best interest to skip the Olympics and focus on the upcoming season instead.

While most fans thought that the Klaw would go straight to injury rehab after leaving the Olympics squad, they were left baffled as he was spotted partying with former teammate Paul George. Yes, in a viral video shot by a fan, Kawhi can be seen having a good time with PG at the Zouk nightclub in Las Vegas. Although Kawhi has his back turned to the camera in the video, PG’s face is clearly visible and he can even be seen putting his arm around his former teammate’s shoulder for a bit before indulging in a conversation with others.

Well, this clip is even more surprising as Paul George very recently left the Clippers, and Kawhi’s close company with it, to join the Sixers on a four-year $212 million max contract. So, no one would have expected to see the two former teammates together so soon, that too partying in Las Vegas!

Kawhi Leonard’s appearance with his “bro 4 lyfe” leaves fans in confusion

As expected, the internet immediately caught fire after seeing Kawhi and PG’s bromance on social media. Sure enough, the very first thought that came to everyone’s mind was why he was partying right after he withdrew from Team USA due to injury and health concerns. And comments like “So he left team USA to go club?” and “I love that he left team USA to hang out with his friends, that’s adorable,” started flooding in, hinting at the confusion among fans.

But with a lot of time left before the next season starts and with the Klaw already in Vegas for the training camp, he might not have given clubbing with PG as much thought, to the level fans have been scrutinizing, after seeing the clip.

Meanwhile, many people were just happy to see them together despite being on separate teams. One commenter said, “bro 4 lyfe.” While they are no longer teammates, there seems to be no love lost between the two superstars after the move. More importantly, PG even let Kawhi know that he was leaving LA before he did it, through a phone conversation as he recently revealed.

“I owe Kawhi that conversation. I called him up and was just like, ‘Man, listen. I think Imma go elsewhere. Conversations with the Clippers didn’t go how I wanted to.’ I kind of broke down how I told you guys how it all played out, and we had that conversation. I was like, ‘Man, I gotta do what’s best.’ He understood.”

Even Kawhi acknowledged a few days ago during the training camp that PG’s departure did not come as a surprise as he was already prepared, “I mean, we know what it was before the season, so we know what it was gonna come down to. So, we talked the whole way through, no surprise.” With no secrets between them, the ex-Clippers duo continue to be good friends and that became clearer with their late-night reunion in Vegas.

However, there was an entire section of fans who couldn’t believe that Kawhi went to the club, as he is famous for his stoic and serious personality, hardly ever seen partying. “THATS DEFINITELY NOT KAWHI 🤧” one netizen wrote.

Moreover, fans didn’t trust the footage because Kawhi’s face was not visible throughout and he even looked significantly shorter than PG while there’s only a one-inch difference in their height. And one netizen questioned, “Since when is kawhi 5’11?” But it is possible that Kawhi might’ve been sitting while the video was being shot, which explains the height difference.

Amid the whole confusion, someone was sure that it was Kawhi and even wrote, “Kawhi really is a fun guy 😭” Obviously, he was referring to the two-time champ’s viral interview from 6 years ago when he joined the Raptors and said, “I’m a fun guy,” in the most serious tone possible. But what made that clip viral was his unusual laughter after he finished his response.

Kawhi might have shown today that he is actually the fun guy that he claims to be. Hopefully, once he is done partying in Vegas and linking up with old pals, he will go straight into preparing for next season and, more importantly, focusing on staying healthy and available for the entire year.
