The NBA world was shell-shocked on Tuesday. LeBron James’ family’s spokesperson broke the news to the world that Bronny suffered a cardiac arrest during practice. The news spread like wildfire and prayers and messages poured in from all directions, from sporting legends and fans. Thankfully, the announcement also clarified that the 19-year-old rising star was stable. Hours after the announcement, James’ youngest took to social media with a special post.

Over the last few months, Bronny had an impressive stint with his high school team. Even though he didn’t win big with Sierra Canyon, he led the team to the regional finals. While it is uncommon for athletes to suffer heart dysfunction, it sure does occur under rare circumstances.

Notably, another freshman from USC, Vince Iwuchukwu, also suffered the same tragedy during informal practice. In fact, Shaquille O’Neal‘s son Shareef O’Neal also had open heart surgery.

There aren’t any scientific reasons yet to back the frequent heart problems among athletes but the doctors recommended that teams should be prepared with the necessary equipment.
