With news of Darvin Ham’s termination from the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday, LeBron James‘ former buddy from the Cleveland Cavaliers, Tyronn Lue, was the most rumored to join the Lakers. However, the news seems to be going the other way. While appearing on the NBA Today show, league insider Adrian Wojnarowski revealed the true colors of the claims roaming around the league. When Adrian was asked about rumors’ reality on the ground level, Adrian replied, “I don’t believe it is realistic on this stuff.

Moreover, the NBA insider further provided credibility to his statement with his remark, “Ty Lue has still got a year left on his contract, and the Clippers are determined to do a long-term deal with Ty Lue.” However, Adrian further clarified that this is something that the Clippers will reveal after the playoffs. But it is true that the Clippers want to resign their star players like “Kawhi Leonard, James Harden, and Paul George” and build the team around Tyronn Lue.

It is worth noticing that the Lakers did approach Tyronn Lue for the position of head coach in 2019 before giving it to Frank Vogel. The reason explained by the reports at that time was that the Lakers and Ty did not get on the same terms. However, the Cavs’ championship duo of James-Lue is yearned by the NBA community but seems to be a utopian thought.

As confirmed by the Athletic, Darvin Ham is out of the equation for the Lakers. Tyronn Lue’s rumor was shut down by the NBA insider. The next one lined up for the coach position with an impressive record is Bucks’ coach Mike Budenholzer. He has been an excellent guide who took Milwaukee to the Championship once in 2021. Moreover, following his instructions on the court, all five of his Bucks team won 60% or more of their games. However, Ham was a prospect of Budenholzer in Atlanta and Milwaukee. So, the possibility of rejection from Mike is present there as well.

Another move that the Lakers can pull is to go for David Adelman. It would be great to recruit a member who can embolden the Lakers and weaken the Nuggets at the same time. Adelman is the one responsible for the offensive transformation of the Denver Nuggets. Moreover, he has applied for head coach posts at various teams but did not hit it. It seems like now he has got the perfect chance to give a big jump to his career as a coach.

Another potential candidate for purple and gold is Kenny Atkinson, one of the NBA’s highest-paid assistants in Golden State. However, he does not intend to move anywhere soon. Frank Vogel is also on the list to join the Lakers. But after what happened in 2023, it can only be a miracle if he joins the former team. Considering all of these potential options, who do you think will make it to the Lakers?
