LeBron James can have all the records he wants in the NBA. From topping the scoring charts to longevity to even having the craziest stat one could find. All that from the throne of the game’s pinnacle and the King has achieved that, according to many. But there’s just one problem — Michael Jordan. As long as people remember MJ, they’ll resist the thought of having LeBron as the outright ruler of their hearts. And how does this make LeBron feel? The answer came from one of his closest confidants.

During a chat session with ESPN’s Shams Charania, Anthony Davis highlighted “the whole debate”. Even though LeBron never directly mentions it, his Lakers teammate understands. “I know it’s in his head. We never talked about it. I know it’s in his head, with Mike four and six,” AD revealed. “I’m pretty sure he wants more.”

LeBron has been waiting to add his fifth title. Even though it won’t settle the score, at least it’ll get him a step closer to MJ. However, the competition isn’t just with the former star, but also with the Lakers’ biggest rival in the East. “The Lakers trying to catch back up to Boston. They have 18, we got 17,” Davis explained.

The Lakers and the Celtics were tied, each with 17 championship titles. That changed last season when the Celtics pulled ahead with their 18th title. As the leader of the Purple and Gold, LeBron has become a key figure in that rivalry and is determined to get the Lakers back in the race alongside the Celtics.

Davis further clarified, “I know us two for sure. And not saying our other guys aren’t at all, or our organization isn’t, like, but Bron and I are, like, for sure motivated to win another championship.” So the 17 Cs players better watch out. LeBron even clarified his motives with another double-double against the Celtics in Thursday night’s win. But they need more of such wins and the duo are quite concerned about the team’s ability to do so in the long run.

LeBron James and Anthony Davis are reportedly growing increasingly ‘concerned’ about the Lakers front office

The Lakers’ offseason moves and now the ones in the trade window have been anything but proportionate to the light of Hollywood. Despite that, JJ Redick’s team is sitting pretty in the fifth spot in the Western Conference.

But in this super tight side of the league, one loss means free falling off the table. To prevent that, the Lakers will need to address a major problem in their roster by adding another big alongside AD. But the help hasn’t come so far.

Can LeBron ever surpass MJ's legacy, or will he always be chasing the ghost of Jordan?

According to Shams Charania, the duo are “growing concerned” over the franchise’s ability to “make significant roster upgrades”. The ESPN reporter clarified, “James, a four-time champion, and Davis, a one-time champ, have expressed that they want the franchise to make moves to contend for a championship, with the co-stars believing the Lakers are potentially a piece or two away, sources said.”

With the trade deadline approaching, the Lakers are yet to match that ambition of LeBron and Davis. The front office tried to get a deal done for Walker Kessler, but the price went up every time the LAL contacted. Coach JJ Redick however, gave his vote of confidence to Rob Pelinka’s efforts. But it’s LeBron who has to be pleased with the results. That’s the reality of the Lakers in their quest for the coveted 18th chip.
