At this point, the NBA world can only share its sympathies for the promising guard, Dejounte Murray. On the other hand, the New Orleans Pelicans’ brutal season had its latest blow, completely crushing the hopes that the team managed to erect in the last few games. Amid this grueling situation, the team has two important updates. One is a wholesome message from the king himself, LeBron James and Trae Young. Secondly, the Pels front office seemed to have immediate action ready.

Tonight, taking on the Boston Celtics, the New Orleans side faced an unfortunate situation in the very first quarter. Around the 3:51 mark, Murray tore his right Achilles tendon in an attempt to rebound his own missed shot. The 28-year-old star knew it right there, as he hobbled off to the sideline and the staff assisted him to the locker room. Moments later, the team announced that the star was sidelined for the rest of the season.

In reaction to the unfortunate update, LeBron James expressed his despair via his X handle. The superstar wrote, “Speedy and healthy recovery to my lil bro!! Love man!” with a flurry of praying emojis.

For those who don’t know, Bron and Murray have had a great rapport since the superstar invited the guard to his camp. In Murray’s words, they both are “tight”. It’s truly a tough pill to swallow for any friend to witness their buddy get injured like this.

On the other hand, Dejounte Murray‘s former teammate, Trae Young, also expressed his wishes for a speedy recovery. The Hawks guard took to his X handle and shared a video of the scary injury with the message, “F–k, Man!! Pray for DJ. With an injury of this stature, it’s doubtful whether the star will return for the 2025-26 season opener. At the same time, the Pels have a new plan ready.

Amid Dejounte Murray’s season exit, the Pels have an action plan

What’s your perspective on:

Can the Pelicans bounce back without Murray, or is this the end of their playoff hopes?

Have an interesting take?

The Pels have lost at least one of their core players throughout this season. Following their early exit from the playoffs last season, the team looked to make a bigger impact this season. They took the necessary action too, roping in Dejounte Murray to strengthen their backcourt. Unfortunately, nothing went as planned. Murray fractured his hand on his Pels debut and missed the next 17 games.

Before he could return to the floor, both Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson suffered various injuries. While Zion returned to the floor, Ingram was yet to make his return. And before that, we have another injury. Moreover, with Ingram injured with an expiring contract, the team is uncertain about retaining him.

On the other hand, the latest trade report from the veteran NBA analyst, Michael Scotto, stated that the team would look to trade before the deadline and get below the luxury tax threshold. So, the question is, who will the team trade out? Will it be Dejounte Murray or Brandon Ingram? Let us know in the comments below.
