With Brazil having found a berth in the knockout stage of the Olympic 2024, they are going against the mighty Team USA next. As we all know, this is far from a simple task for the Brazilians. Team USA cruised through the Olympic group stage as if it were another day at work, while Brazil struggled with two shaky performances in the tournament so far. Keeping this in mind, do the underdogs stand a chance against their formidable opponent in their upcoming match?
Well, Brian Windhorst thinks there might be a chance for Brazil to cause an upset.
“Brazil does not have a strong roster relative to all those other talent guys. One thing that they do have is great size, great interior play. They lead all of the Olympics in offensive rebounding. The US has given up the most offensive rebound of the remaining teams,” Windhorst shared his thoughts on Get Up.

With a roster that has no shortage of height and size, the Brazilians have an average of 13 offensive rebounds per game, which is the most in the tournament while Team USA has given up 16 more offensive rebounds than it has gotten.
“Also, the recipe for pulling an upset here is the three-point shooting. Brazil, at 45%, is the number one remaining three-point shooting team. The US has got to defend that three-point line,” Windhorst added. Brazil has been displaying an impressive performance in shooting, especially from downtown, but the real question is, will they be able to do this against the overwhelming USA team?
With players like Lebron James, Kevin Durant, and Anthony Davis, on their roster, the dream team is on a dream run. But the Brazilian side has their own star power. Bruno Caboclo, who scored over 30 points and grabbed 17 against Japan keeping Brazil’s dream alive, is Brazil’s trump card. Did you know fans hailed him as “The Michael Jordan of Brazil“?
Brazil is a one-star team. 6-9 Bruno Caboclo, once hailed as "The Michael Jordan of Brazil," bounced around the NBA and had some moments. He scored 33 vs Japan. We will send 4 or 5 all-NBA defenders after him, hold him to 15. We will win by at least 33.

With Caboclo in their roster combined with their defensive and three-point shooting prowess, Brazil can be trouble for Team USA in their next match. But most people have already written the Brazilian team off.
Moreover, adding insult to injury, Draymond Green said, “It’s great to see the Brazilians get there. Love the Brazilians. Shout out to Gui Santos. Young fella playing for Brazil, representing his country. I love to see it. They stand no chance. They’ll lose by 35 to 40 points and Team USA will move on to the semifinals.”
Will Brazil be able to produce a miracle or will it be more in line with what Draymond Green predicted? Can never know until it happens!
Is Team USA yet to face the sternest challenge at the Olympics?
With just the United States, Brazil, Serbia, and Australia remaining in the bottom half of the Olympic bracket, Team USA is the top favorite in the group. Even though Canada may have a slight advantage, confidently choosing a team in the top half becomes a large ordeal.
“Giannis put up 27 points. Greece was ahead of Germany by double digits in the first half. The Germans made a strong second half push. They have advanced,” Windhorst said. With Germany advancing to the semi-finals, all eyes are now on France vs. Canada. “We have a really big one today which this city is focused on, France vs. Canada, in a potential elimination game,” Windhorst added.
A large part of Team USA’s dominant run in the Olympics so far might be because of the group they were allotted. With teams like South Sudan and Serbia in their groups, the USA is yet to face a strong opponent in the Olympics 2024. “France and Canada and Germany, I think are the teams as I understand and I would defer to you on this, who are the biggest threats to the US,” the co-host told Brian Windhorst in Get Up.
