LeBron James is on the verge of reaching another incredible milestone in his Hall of Fame career. The 4-time Champion is only 9 points shy of becoming the first NBA player to score 40,000 career points. With the Lakers scheduled to face the Denver Nuggets tonight, LeBron is likely to reach that surreal number tonight. While LeBron was not too worried about crossing the 40,000-point mark after Thursday’s game, he was taken aback by the buzz when he entered the Crypto.com arena tonight.

As King James entered the building for tonight’s game, he was surprised to see more than usual cameras to cover his historic achievement. LeBron said with a smile, “It’s a little bigger deal than I thought it would be I see.” King James finally realized the significance of this moment as he headed to face Nikola Jokić and Co. However, that was not the case two days ago.

After an impressive overtime win over the Wizards in the last game, LeBron was asked if reaching 40,000 points meant anything to him. He replied, “Of course. No one has ever done it.” Even though LeBron knew the gravity of the historic achievement, he believed it would not rank as high as some of his other career accolades. LeBron claimed there is a pecking order in terms of career achievements. The 39-year-old also weighed in on how far he can take the scoring record after reaching 40,000 points. “I never thought about getting the scoring record. It just happened organically.” Despite being the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, LeBron claims he never had a score-first mentality. So, he does not give much thought to it and focuses more on playing the right way.

LeBron James makes history

After LeBron entered the arena and realized how big a deal tonight’s game was, he did not waste much time before creating history. LeBron reached the highly-anticipated 40,000-point mark within the first 2 minutes of the second quarter. He split through two Nuggets’ defenders with a signature spin move and reached the historic milestone with a smooth layup. Fans in the Crypto.com arena erupted and gave LeBron a standing ovation. However, King James was still focused on the game and got a steal on the other end.

Even though scoring 40,000 points is not at the top of LeBron’s list, it might go down as his greatest accomplishment. That record is a testament to LeBron’s longevity, and no NBA player might ever reach that milestone again.
