The Bercy Arena was all set for the unraveling of a duo magic this Olympics season, which would be recorded in the fans’ imagination for a significant time. Paris was left in awe of the Stephen Curry and LeBron James show and Team USA was all smiles and cheers as the camera flashed at the gold medalists after the historic Saturday win against the home favorites – France. But what a gold medal match it turned out to be! The atmosphere was electrifying; the fans were stoked with enthusiasm and the players on both sides of the court were fired up to give it their best shot at every chance that they could grab hold of.

The duo that managed to outshine all others was that of Stephen Curry and LeBron James – both of whom were relentless and unbeatable! While France was putting in all that it takes to get a timely bounce back, Steph suggested to Steve Kerr during a time-out to roll play with LeBron James that would get him just the space needed for a three-point attempt. Without an ounce of doubt on the NBA superstar’s abilities, Kerr agreed, “I said, okay, let’s do that.” And the rest is history.

We all were witnesses to the fitting hourglass moment during the intense faceoff at the grand finale when James and Curry worked in tandem at just the precise moment and staged a historic win. The star-studded team not only brought home the gold but also the speculation that Curry’s rolling performance could continue winning more hearts and heaps of praises at the NBA with the reliable support from the legend LeBron James himself. So is it safe to assume that the Lakers have a blockbuster move in sight?

Will the magic of this favorite duo unfold on the NBA courts as well?

According to an insider source, the two could be seen being quite comfortable and at ease while playing next to each other. With none bearing any grudges whatsoever against the other, as is usually the case when two sporting giants are brought together in a team, this certainly raises some hopes. However, most fans admit that it would be hard for Curry to ditch the Warriors and play alongside the Lakers. According to Trevor Lane, “Curry on the Lakers would be a dream come true, but back to reality. Playing for the country is one thing and for the Lakers in an NBA league quite different. Lakers need to get Guerschon Yabusele.” 

As is characteristic of Curry’s style, he didn’t give it a second thought before instantly landing a match-winning three-pointer for 85-79 to wipe away the traces of pressure and walked away with three more to his enviable record. This placed the Americans in a comfortable spot.

This is what James had in store for Curry after the terrific winning streak: “You just simply marvel in his talent. Obviously, I’ve seen it before on the opposite side. You have just got to keep finding ways to keep getting him the ball.” This was definitely the US Olympic squad since the Barcelona Games that has rightfully been compared to the side led by Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson. And the fans are in no mood to let go of this camaraderie way too soon.

It doesn’t come as much of a surprise when we say that LeBron James kept up pace with his killer legacy. “We got our moment,” said James, a three-time gold medalist. “This is what we wanted. We didn’t like the way we played last summer [finishing fourth at the FIBA World Cup], so we put together this team very fast.” James was all pumped up, forging ahead and putting up 14 points, six rebounds, and nine assists on the scoreboard in this Olympic finale with chants of M-V-P reverberating in the Bercy Arena.

Praising the exceptional prowess showcased by James in the Olympics while playing under the stars and stripes, this is what Curry had to say about his experience so far:
“It’s everything I imagined and more, just the excitement of doing it with the guys in our locker room, we all signed up for the mission to continue USA basketball dominance,” Curry said. “Obviously I understood it was going to be a really tough task with some great teams that we’re going to have to face and there’s a sense of relief at the end, but it’s more a sense of accomplishment obviously knowing what we were able to do.”

The kind of deep reverence the two of them share for each other is truly heart-warming and one that should be emulated by rival players across all games in all formats. Whether Curry would leave The Warriors behind to join hands with The Lakers in the NBA league matches is something that only time will tell. But one thing is for sure, whether playing together or locking horns with each other, these NBA stars certainly have the aces up their sleeves in knowing how to keep their fans at the edge of their seats!
