LeBron James chasing a dream from 22 years ago—Is this his most inspiring journey yet?

It seems like all those who dreamed and dreamed again (and again!) about LeBron James taking football by storm might get their wish. We are quite aware of Bron’s interest in the gridiron. Despite opting for basketball as his primary sport, the ‘King’ has stayed close to football, be it at the collegiate level or professional. And of course, the man himself was a football prodigy during his high school years.

So, what exactly has the 4x champion done to make all the LeBron James x football enthusiasts excited? In James’ latest Instagram story updates, the 39-year-old offered a sneak peek into his future. And it’s not one of just resting. Sharing the viral Monte Harrison post, LeBron wrote, “Me when I retire from the league! Haha!” followed by a thinking face emoji.

As for the Arkansas wide receiver Harrison, there’s a reason why the ‘Akron Hammer’ might have felt a kinship to him. Much like his multi-talented self, the 29-year-old was a standout athlete in three different sports in high school – baseball, basketball, and football. Although the ex-Miami Marlins outfielder committed to the University of Nebraska in 2013, the MLB team, Milwaukee Brewers drafted him in the second round in 2014.

But it seems like Monte’s love for football pulled him back to the gridiron. And now, nearly 10 years later, he’s back as a freshman (walk-on) for the Razorbacks, thanks to his unused NCAA eligibility.

One of the few prospects to have gone straight to the NBA out of high school, the St. Vincent-St. Mary alum has often wondered what it would be to play at a collegiate level. He enquired about the same in a tweet two years ago.

If he so wishes, LeBron James could easily follow Harrison’s path to football

Have an interesting take?

Ohio State, Alabama, Miami, and more. Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks. The former are some of the traditional college football powerhouses while the latter are elite NFL teams. So why are we looking at these? The answer is simple – to show just how good LeBron James is (was, or could be) in football. The 20x All-Star’s high school football coach, Jay Brophy, once revealed to Bleacher Report that he was regularly haunted by a “ton of schools” wanting to know if the No. 1 football prospect in Ohio would be interested in committing.

But it was all in vain. The 2x All-Ohio WR had no plans of choosing football over basketball. “Until the coaches got wise to how great he was and realized that he was definitely going to play basketball, they all wanted him,” Brophy said. However, Bron’s love for the sport had never diminished. If he’s free and there is a game happening, James will be present on the sidelines. Or at least, he will be watching it live, sharing his excitement via his X account.

In a somewhat similar instance, in 2022 to be specific, LeBron James hinted at his interest in probably playing college football. “Do I have college eligibility if I went to play another sport besides basketball? How does that rule work?”

Per the NCAA Division I manual, “a professional athlete in one sport may represent a member institution in a different sport and may receive institutional financial assistance in the second sport.” So, technically, yes. Not only does this permit him to play, but LeBron is eligible to receive financial assistance, too.

Well, the NBA legend seems to have his priorities in order. It would be quite the sight to watch LeBron James in football attire, running up and down the length of the vast field, after seeing him for the past 22 years in the proximity of a basketball court.
