LeBron James has established himself as one of the NBA’s greatest-ever players, if not the greatest. During his illustrious NBA career, LeBron has won four NBA titles, four NBA MVP awards, multiple All-Star and All-NBA accolades, and has emerged as the all-time leading scorer in NBA history, both in the regular season and postseason. It is safe to suggest that LeBron has won everything there is to win in the NBA.
This incredible story began in Akron, at St. Vincent-St. Mary, to be specific. LeBron began his basketball journey while playing for this small Akron high school. His brilliance put St. Vincent-St. Mary on the map. Having said that, it wasn’t just LeBron who elevated the high school into the national limelight, as some of the high school’s most talented prospects also aided him. One such individual was Romeo Travis.
Travis recently posted a mixtape featuring the famed “Fab Five” of St.Vincent-St. Mary on his X (formerly Twitter) account, with the captions, “Great times.” This post caught the attention of LeBron, who replied by writing, “That boy got too much game!!! Mid-Range-Rome a bucket.” Both LeBron and Travis remain close friends even after graduating high school more than two decades ago.

However, Travis’ basketball career didn’t pan out like LeBron. While LeBron James enlisted for the 2003 NBA Draft right after high school, Jarvis decided to commit to the University of Akron. After graduating from college, Travis played basketball internationally, including in countries like Finland and Germany. Although his basketball career didn’t reach the same level of success as LeBron’s, he still achieved a commendable and respectable career in basketball abroad. He last played for French team Limoges during the 2020-21 season.
What does Romeo Travis do now?
After failing to fulfill his NBA dream, Romeo Travis decided to hang up his boots following the conclusion of the 2020-21 season in the French league, LNB Pro A. Currently, he serves as an assistant coach at his alma mater, St. Vincent-St. Mary High School. However, despite his role as a high school coach, Travis finds himself on the wrong side of the law.

In March 2023, Travis was charged with wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud in a federal court in Akron. Travis used contracts altered by his agent to avoid paying taxes. Travis pleaded guilty and now must pay approximately $375,000 in restitution for unpaid income taxes.
