As we head closer to Game 1 of the Lakers vs. Nuggets series, the NBA World is looking forward to the highly-anticipated rematch between LeBron James and Nikola Jokic. Despite their unique skills, the two basketball geniuses play a similar role on their respective teams. LeBron and Jokic can play multiple positions and act as floor generals when their team needs them to. LeBron is well known for uplifting his teammates and elevating their game to the next level. And knowing how difficult it is to achieve that feat, the 4-time MVP recognizes that Jokic does the same for the Nuggets.
In an interview ahead of Saturday’s Game 1, LeBron revealed what he admires about The Joker’s game. “He does everything. The most important thing, he changes the way his teammates think about their own play.” When a reporter pointed out that LeBron has been doing the same thing throughout his career, the Lakers superstar addressed the only difference between Jokic and him. “Obviously, different names on the back of the jersey. But the way we play the game, how we was taught to play the game are quite similar.”

Despite being the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, LeBron has always made sure to make the right play instead of playing hero ball. James’ incredible basketball IQ allows him to always know what is happening on the floor and make the right pass to his teammates for an easy shot. Jokic does the same when he is running point for the Nuggets. The Joker attracts multiple defenders when he has the ball, leading to open shots for his teammates.

Apart from addressing the similarity between Jokic and his game, LeBron also had high praise for the 2-time MVP. Having played against several elite players in the playoffs throughout his career, LeBron put Jokic in the same ranks as other NBA greats, including Stephen Curry and Tim Duncan. “One of the best players to ever play this game. It’s that simple.” The Lakers superstar revealed that it’s hard to stop Jokic because of his 6’11 284lbs frame and the fact that he is in great shape.
LeBron also called out the media for creating a false narrative about The Joker being lazy. “He has great motor. We know that. The players that play against him know that. That’s just a media horrible narrative.” Jokic is a 2-time MVP and will likely win his 3rd MVP award this year. He dominated the league all season, averaging 26.4 points, 12.4 rebounds, and 9 assists. Despite Jokic doing everything on the floor and leading the Nuggets to the 2nd seed, the narrative that he is lazy and disinterested is ridiculous. Greatness recognizes Greatness, and LeBron understands the challenge he faces in the first-round series against Denver.
