Phoenix Suns’ future this season is over. The Minnesota Timberwolves swept them off clean in the first round 4-0. Subsequent effects of this scenario can lead to multiple changes, which probably no one saw coming. And one such decision about Devin Booker leaving Kevin Durant is right on the brink of getting exposed.
As per ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, “Booker wants to be in New York,” He stated this on Monday on his show, First Take. He continued, “That’s what I’m being told. Now, he might deny it, I haven’t spoken to him. I’m just telling you the scuttlebutt in the NBA circles is that the brother wanna be in New York. So if you’re Phoenix, you’ve got at least two people—probably three—who are all getting paid about $150 million combined who don’t wanna be there.”

The Knicks have four first-round picks at their disposal, which has been a reason for the Los Angeles Lakers to send LeBron James their way. Maybe Book got wind of that situation and wants to escape Phoenix for greener pastures, perhaps.
Now neither of the Big Three, including KD, wants to stay in Phoenix, despite being a part of their $150 million salary cap. As for their head coach Frank Vogel, he seems to be in a lot of trouble. The main reason for the Sun’s fall against the Wolves was their defense, making them vulnerable to the onslaught from Anthony Edwards.

Will Durant follow suit after Booker’s plan to leave for New York?
Kevin Durant’s future in the Phoenix Suns
The Slim Reaper won’t be an unrestricted free agent until after the 2025-2026 season. In 2021, KD signed a contract extension with the Brooklyn Nets and he’s serving the penultimate year of that contract. Durant is on track to be paid $49.8 Million next season, and $53.2 Million in the season after that. However, if the former MVP requests to be traded from the Suns, there is nothing the team can do about it.

While chances are that he might stay, winning a championship looks difficult with the current roster, and KD, who will be in his 17th season, doesn’t have much time on the clock. It’s been quite some time since he left the Golden State Warriors in the quest for a championship. While Stephen Curry and the Dubs have won one without KD, he has yet to replicate that feat. In the interim, he bounced between teams. So with the Slim Reapers window on the chip shrinking where will go next?
