Netflix’s newest project, ‘Court of Gold,’ gave fans an inside look at all the drama and intensity during the Paris Olympics. Although the heavy focus was on USA Basketball, the indomitable powerhouse. For the first time, the three pillars of modern basketball, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, and LeBron James, featured on the same court at such an elusive competition. But, focusing on the docuseries, two players featured heavily from start to finish.
Durant showed his vulnerable and confident sides during the docuseries. Stephen Curry detailed how his debut Olympics at 36 felt like just the right time. Then there was LeBron James, a man with an immense storyline. He was returning to the international stage after 12 years and was hugely responsible for assembling ‘The Avengers’ together. But his contributions to the ‘Court of Gold’ are rather limited.
The documentary director, Jake Rogal, spoke about the reasons behind it. And it wasn’t because the King didn’t want to share his thoughts during what could be his final Olympics. James just didn’t have the time.

“With LeBron, it was a scheduling thing. He wanted to be a part of it. His schedule was very packed. We did the show in a condensed time, so we only had a couple months to get these interviews, and LeBron is a busy man with a lot of obligations. So the schedules just didn’t work out, so it wasn’t for a lack of want, it just didn’t really align,” Rogal told HoopsHype.
But the Paris Olympics did mean a lot to LeBron James. He served as the Flag Bearer for The USA contingent for the first time in his career. Additionally, his MVP performance at the tournament helped him realize something. “It gave me okay, I do have a lot in the tank. A LOT. I can help a team win the gold or Larry O’Brien trophy,” the Akron Hammer revealed in a later interview.
Maybe at a later time, the 40-year-old will share his entire experience candidly. However, that’s not the case for Nikola Jokic.

Unlike LeBron James, Nikola Jokic didn’t want to be on camera
The Joker is many things. A three-time MVP, a transcending center, and by core a fiery competitor. But the one thing he isn’t is someone who looks to share a lot. Nikola Jokic loves the tranquility in his life which stays away from the cameras. In the NBA, the need to do post-game interviews became the only reason he even showed his face for cameras.
But if the choice was up to him, he would never do it. No doubt about it. That’s one of the luxuries the Paris Olympics offered to athletes. And as expected, the Denver Nuggets keystone was nowhere to be found for a post-game chat.
The same remains true for his minimal appearance on ‘Court of Gold’. You will see him be part of team activities, practicing hard and helping his teammates. But as far as independent talk, the Joker just didn’t want to do it as revealed by Rogal.

“Jokic doesn’t really like doing interviews and I totally understand that. It’s just one of those things where he just doesn’t want to do it. We never really thought he would do it because we know his history and we know his evasiveness with the media. We tried to get him of course, but we knew it would probably not work out,” the director explained.
Even a championship victory didn’t phase the Joker in 2023. Notably, he even refused to attend the Nuggets’ championship parade. However, after the experience, Jokic admitted he was wrong and loved to experience and passion and joy of the fans as they celebrated their achievement together.
