King James has done it yet again after an emphatic performance in the semifinals against Serbia. He led Team USA to multiple victories, however, this knockout game was one for the ages! LeBron James posted his second Olympic triple-double (16 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists), becoming the only player with multiple triple-doubles on the grandest stage. If that wasn’t historic enough, LBJ alongside Steph and KD made a 17-point comeback to punch their ticket to the Finals. At 39, such dominance speaks volumes.
Now, while fans were excited to watch LeBron James, KD, and Steph Curry team up and play in the Olympics, one of the team members didn’t hesitate to point out the fact that the veterans have quite the mileage left. However, Joel Embiid opened up about the potential issues Team USA could face, and they weren’t invincible. “The LeBron now is not the LeBron that was a couple of years ago. So it’s a big difference,” Embiid said. For the most part, Durant seemed to agree with Embiid, but then again, KD appreciated James.
“He’s not running and jumping the same way he was when he was 25, 26 years old, but he’s still jumping pretty high and running pretty fast.”, Team USA’s Olympics lead scorer asserted. While these were the comments made before the Preliminary round, LeBron James’ recent games simply put a full stop to them! The Laker shared an emotional message to his fans after posting his triple-double. “It’s up there. I’m 39 years old, it’s my 22nd season. I don’t know how many opportunities and moments I’m going to get like this to be able to compete for something, to be able to compete for something big and playing big games.”, via BasketNews.

It is definitely a bittersweet moment for longtime LeBron James and hoops fans. On one end, his explosive performance left everyone amazed and excited. On the other hand, it reminds them it’s the King’s final years on the court. Having been considered ‘the best’ for the majority of his career, Bron’s time in the league will soon come to an end.

Nevertheless, watching him finish things off like he is in Paris is for sure an iconic goodbye to the Olympics. Not to mention, KD doesn’t believe that this tour is the last one. “Like Bron could play 4 or 5 more. It might be here in 28′ in LA, you know. Steph still playing great ball, I’m doing alright too. So I don’t want to look at it that way. I think we still got some good ball in the tank,” he said. On the bright side, there is yet another ‘opportunity’ and James can take another trophy home along with his gold medal.
LeBron James is the frontrunner in the MVP race too!
Kevin Durant won the Olympics MVP title back in 2021 when he won his 3rd Gold medal for Team USA. This time around, LeBron James topped the Olympics MVP ladder, followed by the three-time league MVP, Nikola Jokic, Dennis Schroder, and the Slim Reaper. As of now, there is no doubt that the King will add yet another MVP trophy to his name by the end of the tournament. Playing at the highest level at 39, he deserves this award, while still being as productive and single-handedly winning games for his country.
LeBron James will look to bag his third Olympic gold this Sunday against a “super competitive” opposition. It will be an interesting Showdown, knowing both didn’t have it easy in the Semi-Finals. Of course, it will be a tough crowd to play against for Steve Kerr’s boys, but that will be the beauty of this Finale. “Obviously, this is Wemby’s first Olympics but that team’s been playing together for quite a while. They’ve been feeding off the crowd, so we’re looking forward to that matchup,” James concluded.
Leaving behind all the refereeing controversies, can LeBron James, who’s averaged about 14 points and 8 assists in this edition, emerge above all and lead Team USA to international glory? Importantly, do you think he can stick around for another four years?
