Thought that the Dallas Mavericks’ situation couldn’t get any worse after Luka Doncic’s exit? Well, Kyrie Irving just went out and said, ‘Hold My Beer’.
The 32-year-old star sent out a major scare during the Mavs’ recent matchup against the Sacramento Kings after he sustained a left knee sprain in the 1 quarter. Mavs head coach Jason Kidd held some optimism by stating, “Just unlucky, you know, hope that he’s healthy and it’s not serious”. Unfortunately, Kidd could not have been further from the truth if a medical professional’s recent diagnosis is to be believed. Given Irving’s poor condition, several of the player’s former teammates are sending in their prayers.
The Los Angeles Lakers did not play a game today. Therefore, both LeBron James and Luka Doncic would have been catching up on how other teams were fairing. This allowed them to react immediately after Kyrie Irving went down. Taking to X, LeBron wrote, “Prayers sent up to Ky”, accompanied by a series of different emojis. Meanwhile, the Slovenian highlighted his former teammate’s injury on his Instagram story. He added teary eyes and folded hands emojis as a caption.

Dr Evan Jeffries recently took to X to provide his diagnosis after viewing Irving’s injury. According to him, the way the player’s left knee buckled and hyperextended does not speak well for him. Jeffries believes that the best-case scenario is that the injury is simply a Hyperextension/bone bruise. Worst-case scenario: an ACL tear.
If Kyrie Irving has gone down with the worst-case scenario, he can reportedly be ‘OUT’ for around 8 to 12 months. In that case, the point guard has played his final game with the Dallas Mavericks for this season.
LeBron and Luka were not the only players who sent out their kind thoughts to the Mavericks star. James Harden also took to X and posted a crossed-fingers emoji and a folded-hands emoji as a caption. However, no other wishes would mean as much to Irving as those from LeBron and Luka.

The NBA All-Time Scorer and Irving served as teammates on the Cleveland Cavaliers for three seasons (2014-2017). Together, they transformed the team into one of the best in the league, making three straight NBA finals appearances and winning the 2016 NBA championship. Eventually, Kyrie Irving left the Cavaliers as he reportedly “wanted more, his own team”. Despite this, he continues to hold a good bond with LeBron.
As for Luka, it was only a few weeks ago when the duo was separated after the Slovenian was traded to the Lakers. After the trade, Irving said, “It’s still a grieving process right now. Miss my ‘hermano’”.
The Dallas Mavericks were already in a poor condition after Luka Doncic’s exit. The team had reached a point where it held a 32-29 win record. With Kyrie Irving’s exit, their hopes of even reaching the playoffs are all but gone now. Well, even though his team won’t make the postseason again, and his availability status is in a cloud of doubt, at least the point guard went out with a bang!
Kyrie Irving won over Mavs fans after making 2 free throws despite injury
It is safe to say that the Dallas Mavericks are not the most popular NBA team right now. After all, the front office did not win any favor by giving away Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis, who got sidelined indefinitely after his Mavs debut. As highlighted by social media users, there were lots of empty seats during the recent Mavs-Kings game. Despite this, even the limited attendees stood up and sent their love after Kyrie Irving followed in the footsteps of Kobe Bryant and Klay Thompson.

Even after sustaining the left knee injury, Kyrie Irving asked his teammates to carry him back to the paint. After DeMar DeRozan of the Sacramento Kings fouled him, the Mavs star had pending free throws. Agonized in pain, with tears rolling down his face, Irving shot both his free throws successfully. Throughout the process, he had the support of the crowd. Some stood on their feet to clap, while others chanted “MVP, MVP”.
A moment of pure determination for Kyrie Irving.
