The FIBA World Cup 2023 has come to a close and we have a new basketball world champion. It’s Germany! They were consistent throughout the tournament with names like Dennis Schroder and Franz Wagner. The Germans passed their final hurdle, Serbia, and have been crowned champions of the world. While it is a joyous moment for thousands of fans across the world, one fanbase might be disappointed. It is the LeBron James-led Los Angeles Lakers.

After all, Schroder was one of their own just a few months ago. Here’s how he could’ve brought some more joy to the Lakers fanbase after a disappointing United States of America outing.

Dennis Schroder has quite the history with the Lakers. The German star initially joined them in 2020 and played a crucial role that season. Following a fallout with the front office, he joined the Celtics in search of a better deal. After moving here and there, the re-signed with the Lakers during the trade deadline last season. Despite his past history, Schroder put in a great performance and helped his team reach the Western Conference Finals. Following a good few months, Schroder joined the Toronto Raptors during NBA Free Agency a few months ago. Now, instead of the Lakers, the Toronto Raptors will be celebrating having a World Champion on their team.

Lakers youngster Austin Reaves also had a great FIBA World Cup like his former teammate, Schroder. However, Reaves faced defeat at the hands of Germany during the Semi-Finals a few days ago.

How much is Schroder earning with the Raptors?

Schroder was signed to a $2,641,682 deal by the Lakers in the dying moments of the 2023 NBA trade deadline. Despite his minimal contract, he executed all of his duties, especially during the playoffs.

Schroder averaged 7.4 points, 2.9 assists, and 1.9 rebounds coming off the bench on most occasions. Currently, the $25 million rich guard earns $12 million a year with the Toronto Raptors, according to Spotrac.

This figure will increase to $13 million by the end of his contract in 2025.
