The Lakers’ misery continues. Right before the All-Star break, they suffered a brutal loss to the Jazz, which snapped their six-game winning streak. And they hoped to regain their momentum tonight by getting an easy home win against the Hornets. But the visiting team took LeBron James and Co. by surprise, handing them another embarrassing loss. However, instead of sobbing over the massive upset, LBJ seemed more focused on son Bryce James’ nasty moves!

Yes, just minutes after heading to the locker room following the three-point loss, LeBron took to social media and shared a video of Bryce’s smooth jelly layup on his Instagram story. “TOO SMOOTH!!!!” He wrote, marveling at his son’s insane finish avoiding multiple defenders. Maybe the Lakers star was just using it as a distraction to take his mind off tonight’s loss.

Obviously, it was a tough night for the LA franchise. The first blow came when Austin Reaves got ejected from the game in the third quarter after receiving two quick technical fouls for complaining to the refs about a no-call. Meanwhile, LeBron and Luka Doncic continued to have terrible shooting nights. But LBJ managed to hit a long-range three to cut the Hornets’ lead to one, giving his team a shot at sending the game to overtime.

However, the Lakers blew their chance as LeBron missed the game-tying shot, not once but twice in the final five seconds. But the brutal outcome got us thinking…

Should Luka Doncic have taken the final shot instead of LeBron James?

Well, there is no doubt that LeBron is still the primary option for the Lakers. After all, it has been his team for the last seven years. But that rule might not apply when you acquire a superstar of Luka Doncic’s caliber. As great as LBJ is even at age forty, Luka is arguably a better scorer and a better clutch shot-maker than him right now. He has proven it time and again at the biggest stages. But instead of taking the final shot tonight, Luka in-bounded the ball and got out of the way.

LeBron's focus on Bryce's skills—Is it a distraction from Lakers' woes or genuine pride?

However, it might have been the right call because Doncic was 1 of 9 from three on the night prior to that play and there is a high chance he might have missed the shot. Even LeBron was having a rough night, but he made a huge deep-range bucket just seconds prior, which might have led to JJ Redick handing the ball to him for the final shot. Unfortunately, the shots did not fall but that’s how the cookie crumbles sometimes.

Maybe, LBJ will let Luka take clutch shots in the future when he adjusts better to his new squad and plays at the level he used to with the Mavs. What are your thoughts?
