For over two decades, LeBron James has built his career in a way that showcases nothing but greatness. His work ethic, drive, passion– everything about him is inspirational. And even at 40, the Lakers superstar is striving for even more greatness. One thing about we know about greatness is that it cannot be limited. It often transcends boundaries. Now, from the hardwood, it has reached the tennis court. Following a true champion can only lead to a championship, and Mirra Andreeva knows that too well. That’s why she chose to recall LeBron’s words before bagging her WTA 1000 title. Later, she credited the NBA legend for her success. But LeBron, being LeBron, refused to accept it.
It was during her postgame press conference that the tennis sensation disclosed the truth behind her motivation. “I’ve been listening to a lot of LeBron James interviews,” Mirra said. Sharing the 4x champion’s words that inspired her, she added, “He said that, ‘It’s easy to be confident and to play good when everything goes your way, but what makes you a champion is when you’re giving your best when you don’t feel great’. So that’s what I tried to do today.”
On hearing her shoutout, LeBron quickly took to Instagram to post a heartfelt message. He wrote, “CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Happy to have helped but honestly YOU did THAT!! All your hard work, drive and dedication towards your craft! KEEP GOING! #striveforgreatness.” He ended the caption with folded hands emojis, a trophy, and a medal to celebrate her achievement.
