USWNT finally breaks the Olympics drought—Is this the start of a new golden era for women's soccer?

USA continues its dominant run in the 2024 Paris Olympics! Trailing just behind China, they had won 33 gold, 41 silver, and 39 bronze medals, as of yesterday. The USWNT, featuring Bulls legend Dennis Rodman’s daughter, Trinity, recently added one more gold to the list, defeating Brazil! This victory, in no way, was non-significant since this is the first time in 12 years that they’ve managed to do so. As a result, reactions quickly poured in, even from King James, who is currently on his way to add the 35 medal to the list.

Barely a few hours before the highly coveted USA-France Finals hoops game, LeBron James took to his official X account to mark Trinity Rodman and her squad’s achievement. Highlighting a post from the official page of Team USA, the 39-year-old posted, “🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🥇!! CONGRATS LADIES.” After an action-packed conclusion to the game, what more was needed to be said?

LeBron James wasn’t the only celebrity from the hoops fraternity to make his reaction known. Dawn Staley also caught some soccer action. Instead of just sending out her praise, however, the 54-year-old made use of the opportunity to take a dig at Chicago Sky rookie Kamilla Cardoso. “Hey @Kamillascsilva! What size @USWNT jersey you need? Coach got you!!! Let’s gooooo!!!” she wrote. Staley earlier revealed placing a bet with the Brazilian, under which the loser would wear the jersey of the rival team!

Now, with her national team having already won another gold medal, and may possess two more by this time tomorrow, Staley is looking forward to seeing Cardoso not only don the USWNT jersey but also displaying it during a tunnel walk on IG live.

Both LeBron James and Dawn Staley have important games coming up. After securing a very narrow win against Serbia in the semifinal, the All-Time NBA scorer and his roster will take on France to secure the 5th consecutive gold medal in men’s basketball. As for the women’s team, Sabrina Ionescu and Co. will also have their Finals matchup against, guess whom, France!

Yes, this is the first time in the history of the Olympics that the same sides will compete for gold in both the men’s and women’s basketball categories. While it remains to be seen if the USA can capture two basketball golds, they can celebrate the present soccer feat, for now. Fortunately, so can the community.

After LeBron James, fans react as the ‘Golden Girls’ bring the Gold home

No sooner had LeBron James and Dawn Staley posted their reactions when others also descended onto social media to make their voice known. An individual reacted, “your turn king 🥇” Whether Team USA wins the Gold or not, King James will certainly give his best in the game. After all, being 39, it may be the very last Olympic game of his professional career.

Giving the USWNT the honorary title of ‘Golden Girls’, one social media user was in awe of them after the win. Having seemed to have caught the game live, the user posted, “Congrats @USWNT! The golden girls did it! Brazil had a strong first half but Team USA was more effective in the second half with Swanson, Smith, and Rodman…”

Mallory Swanson was responsible for scoring the only goal of the game, hitting it just before the half mark by foxing the Brazilian defense, going up to goalkeeper Lorena Leite, and shooting at the far post. The so-called ‘Triple Espresso’ front line of Swanson, Sophia Smith, and Trinity Rodman was the highlight of the game. For her part, Rodman attempted to be efficient on offense as well as defense, almost adding to the USWNT’s lead while anchoring to the defensive third of the pitch in the 43 minute.

One commenter especially highlighted the skills that Trinity Rodman displayed on the soccer field. By bringing her dad Dennis Rodman into the fold, he affirmed his faith in the saying “Trinity Rodman for USA women’s soccer is getting into it with the Brazilians. The apple didn’t fall far from the tree here.”

It wouldn’t have been easy for Trinity to make a mark for herself. After all, her father belonged to one of the greatest eras of basketball that the world has witnessed. Along with the two NBA Championships Dennis won with the Pistons, he went on to secure 3 more alongside the MJ and Scottie Pippen-led Chicago Bulls. Now, with an Olympic gold medal draped around her neck, Trinity can stand on the same footing as the NBA legend!

One user highlighted that the secret to success was…pink hair? Her belief stemmed from the fact that Megan Rapinoe had the color on her hair when she won Gold at the 2019 FIFA World Cup, whilst also being named the Best FIFA Women’s Player. Further, pink was also adopted by Alexia Putellas. Now, with Trinity Rodman also adorning the color during her games, should more be said?

Ironically, longtime NBA fans would know pink to be the choice of color for Dennis Rodman himself. Known for his bizarre hairstyles over his 14-year-long stint in the NBA, the player would often enter the United Center and become the center of attention!
