The reason LeBron James has had such a long career is because he believes in taking care of his mental and physical health; Spirituality is a part of the mental work he does. “Meditating helps a lot for me personally with taking a lot of deep breaths, closing my eyes and just centering myself and listening to my inner self,” he once shared how he took care of himself during the pandemic (also explains his meditative-like state while on the bench). But now that he is in the twilight of his career, has anything changed?
Well, on Day 3 of the All-Star Weekend, he opted to sit out, shocking a lot of people. As expected, it triggered the retirement questions, putting the 40-year-old on the spot. Did he stutter? No, ‘King James’ confidently replied and revealed the secret that keeps him going. He wasn’t talking about his work ethic or fitness, but a spiritual secret. And as much as he’s focused on extending his career, his wife, Savannah, is waiting for him to slow down.
During the NBA All-Star 2025 media availability, the ‘Akron Hammer’ stated: “I have a great appreciation for the moment because I understand that it’s not gonna be a lot of moments going into the future. Whenever that time [retirement] comes. So you have an opportunity to really, truly appreciate every single moment and take it all in, no matter the good, the bad, the adversity. Whatever comes with the day-to-day process of being a professional and still trying to play for championships… And I have been doing it for such a long time, I have been a professional for 22 years.“

It was a simple philosophy. He appreciates and cherishes every moment in front of him. Think about the curve ball thrown at 4x NBA Champ. Luka Doncic‘s trade to the Lakers. Many thought it could mean that James would leave the team, but when asked about his own future in LA, he stated, “A generational talent like that to our franchise is something that’s given me energy… I’m looking forward to seeing what we could do.”

Isn’t this something of a package of secrets that every star should take note of? Truly legendary stuff. While James continues to leave us in awe, will he turn back to his home once and fulfill his wife’s long-pending request?
Savannah’s wish and LeBron James’ retirement in question…
As mentioned earlier, Savannah wants her husband to slow down. Playing in his 22nd season, Bron hasn’t stopped grinding since 2003 and maybe even before. As the superstar continues to deepen his career, Mrs. James has been waiting for him to turn his attention back home. She’s been asking him to slow down and spend more time with family—a request that has been years in the making.
It came up to a point where Rich Paul revealed that his best buddy might take an early retirement to please his wife and kids, saying, “At some point, come on, man, it’s got to be about them. And I think from that perspective, maybe two to three (years), you know.” There we go. Here’s a concrete number.

Anyway, it’s not like James doesn’t realize the need at his home. In fact, during an emotional post-game interview with Bronny about three months ago, he said, “It’s always been family over everything. I lost a lot of time because of this league.” It’s about time that James began collecting whatever he lost during this tiring yet successful journey.

So where does that leave LeBron James? On one hand, he revealed the secret to keep himself moving forward in his career. On the other hand, his family—especially Savannah—has been waiting for the day he finally steps away.
