The recent Bucks vs Lakers faceoff had the latter team in a fix, since they would be playing without the presence of star player LeBron James. With the crowd cheering on the team at the Crypto.com Arena, the players knew that they needed a miracle to pull off a win against the team that occupies the third place on the Western Conference Points table. Fortunately, that miracle came in the form of D’Angelo Russell. Taking the offensive lead in the 4 quarter, Russell scored 21 and brought his total score to an all-time season-high of 44 points. Furthermore, the go-ahead jumper he hit during the final 5.9 seconds helped to secure the win for the team by barely one point.
There was no doubt amongst fans that D’Angelo Russell emerged as the MVP of the night. His performance was enough to generate a reaction from the absent player himself. It didn’t take long for King James to go to his official X account and write a tweet that said “YEAAAAHHHH 9LO!!! @Dloading” accompanied by a couple of emojis.

Along with securing his season high, Russell also managed to make 9 three-pointers during the game. While the field of players who have managed to achieve this feat is a vast one, there are only two other Lakers players in that category: LeBron James and the late Kobe Bryant. By making his first 9 three-pointers for the Lakers on the date that coincides with the Black Mamba’s jersey number (8/24), D’Angelo Russell would have definitely made two Lakers proud.

D’Angelo Russell and LeBron James have successfully managed to form a fruitful partnership in their one year as teammates. By taking his junior under the wing and providing him with some important lessons, the 39-year-old has developed a sort of mentor-mentee relationship with Rusell. And no one is gladder about this fact than the latter.
During a recent post-game press conference, Russell praised LeBron. He recalled how the 4x NBA champion opened his eyes to the world of basketball and inspired him to become who he is. Once he caught a glimpse of the basketball icon during his very first NBA game, the future player felt that the situation was too overwhelming for someone like him to emotionally bear.
“I was a big LeBron fan. He did that signature dunk, and I remember crying” Russell said. “That is when I was like ‘this is where I want to be’. He’s inspired me without even knowing it.”
