Bronny James wins $10,000—Is he the next big thing in the NBA like his dad?

Bronny James, son of LeBron, finally seems to have found success amongst his Summer League counterparts. However, it didn’t come from a game of basketball! Rather, by putting their guns to the test, relax, digitally! That’s right, Bronny emerged victorious in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III challenge held as a downtime activity for the youngsters. By accumulating over 84 kills, the 19-year-old even surpassed Charlotte’s Grant Williams’ scores. This was good enough to earn Bronny praise from another video game enthusiast: Lebron James himself.

Taking to his official Instagram account, the veteran Laker highlighted Bronny’s achievement, to his whopping 159 million followers. It was also accompanied by a caption that read “Ayyyeeeee!!! He really like that on that Duty!!!”. Having watched the young player grow up under his roof, no one would be more aware of the 19-year-old’s video-game skills than his dad himself. This win will not leave Bronny empty-handed, as he earned a $10,000 reward and a custom Call of Duty Championship belt.

While this caused a major backlash from the fanbase, LeBron really wouldn’t mind his son having a breather amidst all the pressure and horrific things critics are saying these days. So, unlike the doubters, James was not another name on that list.

After all, the 39-year-old All-time NBA scorer has had his share of experience with video games as well. Even today, he takes to social media to post highlights of his playthrough of NFL Madden!

Call of Duty may not be LeBron James’ go-to game in recent times. While he had taken to X (then Twitter) in 2012 to share his love for Black Ops 2, not much is known about his review of the game’s recent renditions. He may have not shown any significant interest in the same, but the Lakers star hasn’t hesitated to crash when others are playing games, as evidenced by a previous incident.

LeBron James once rang Anthony Davis during a COD live stream!

Apart from Bronny, the only other Laker who occasionally dabbles with COD is Anthony Davis. It certainly provides a quick break in the midst of the grueling NBA schedule. However, when the lead scorer of your team calls him, AD picks up, no matter what! Back in March 2021, he had teamed up with point guard and then teammate Dennis Schroder to do a live stream of their playthrough.

Right in the middle of the game, however, the Lakers ace received a call from LeBron James. When asked if the lead scorer called in for any particular reason, he replied, “Ain’t s**t, big bird!” indicating that he just wanted to check in on Anthony Davis. Unfortunately, this distraction proved heavy, as Schroder ended up dying in their gameplay whilst being distracted.

Both AD and Bron were sidelined from the main lineup during that period, with the latter recovering from his leg injury. For Davis, his purpose seemed to be getting his mind off the rehab process. Therefore, no matter whether it was the game or a conversation with LeBron James, it was prioritized over gaming.
