Following Joel Embiid, Karl-Anthony Towns had a historic night against the Charlotte Hornets. The Minnesota Timberwolves star recorded his career-high score of 62 points and beat the franchise record for most points scored in a game (which coincidentally he held, with 60). While pursuing his high score, LeBron James couldn’t stop himself from praising the Wolves’ star.

In his praise, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar didn’t fail to highlight Embiid’s masterclass outing to break several records in the NBA world.

LeBron James took to his X handle and expressed his awe. The post read, “KAT got 58 at the end of the 3rd! 10-12 from 3 so far. These boys tonight going CRAZY!!”

Unlike Embiid, who dominated the paint, Towns had a great game shooting from the arc. The 28-year-old star dropped 30 of his 62 points in three-pointers. Following his dominance in the first three quarters, the Wolves didn’t make much of an impact in the last quarter, as he only managed to score 4 points, despite multiple attempts.

Unfortunately, Towns’ subdued performance in the last quarter cost them the game against the 13th-seed Hornets. Apart from KAT, none of the Wolves stars stepped up to counterattack the sudden outburst from the Hornets’ side. Even Anthony Edwards had a snooze fest. He dropped only 9 points with a 3-11 FG and was even scoreless for the first 25 minutes he was on the court.

On the other hand, the visitors had an all-round performance, where the rookie, Brandon Miller, dropped 27 points with an impeccable 85% FG. Apart from him, Miles Bridges and LaMelo Ball dropped 28 and 18 points, respectively, to give them a nail-biting 128-125 win. With the win, the visitors turned the Wolves’ historic night into a frustrating loss.

The Wolves’ clutch failure, cost two games in a row

In their last game against the OKC Thunder, Edwards missed three clutch free throws in a row to tie the game up. But, that very mistake cost them a game. 24 hours after the game, the Wolves give away yet another game, despite having a 15-point lead in the start of the fourth quarter.

Importantly, with Towns chasing history with 58 points by the end of 3rd quarter, the team had all the opportunity to win the game. Instead, they fell short, as the red-hot Towns only 2 out of 10 attempts in the last quarter. Following the game, the Wolves are one loss away from giving away the West leader tag to the OKC. Will they defend it? Only time will tell.
