Did Ja Morant's trash talk fuel Anthony Davis to lead the Lakers to victory?

After enjoying the massive celebratory pie at the FedExForum, the Grizzlies marched to the Crypto.com Arena to crush the Lakers once again. However, this time they played without Ja Morant on the roster, but the point guard still played a key role in impacting the game. While Morant had targeted LeBron James in the first matchup, in the second meeting, it was Anthony Davis who had his attention. The two were seen engaging in what appeared to be a heated back-and-forth, and it has now been disclosed what sparked the exchange.

The revelation came from none other than the popular X page, LegendZ, known for exposing NBA players through lip-reading clips. This time too, they didn’t disappoint, offering an entertaining glimpse for both fanbases. The leaked video showed Morant, who was sidelined because of his hip injury, trash-talking with Davis for the most part. The on-court microphone caught him shouting, “God damn, AD” after Jaren Jackson Jr. went past Davis to score a bucket.

That wasn’t all. After Davis failed to block a three-pointer, Morant pointed a finger at him as if he were holding a firearm and taunted, “Come here, AD.” Yes, we’ve heard that before. There were also remarks like “Hey, that’s tough” as the 31-year-old Davis struggled to get the upper hand in a one-on-one with Jackson. From the bench, Morant continued to take a jab, telling his teammates, “I swear, they (Lakers) can’t f–k with y’all.”

AD tolerated the banter for a while, but he’d had enough. In the final quarter, the 9-time All-Star hit a three and celebrated by performing the Freeze 3-point celebration in Morant’s direction. Finally, after the Lakers secured a 128-123 victory, the offensive forward let out his frustration at Morant senior with an “I’m different, n—-“ remark while Tee Morant was enjoying the banter.

This came after Tee Morant was seen trying to mend fences with the Lakers. Following the Lakers’ defeat to the Grizzlies in the previous game, Tee was spotted chatting with Bronny James, who made a brief five-minute appearance in the game. The gesture seemed to soften the hearts of Lakers fans, but with AD’s reaction, that certainly has ignited. Despite Morant’s courtside antics, Davis was nearly impossible to stop.

Have an interesting take?

No matter how hard Morant tried, he couldn’t shift Anthony Davis’ focus during the game. The big man did struggle with his shooting, going 6-of-16 from the field in his 32 minutes of play, but he made up for it with his dominance near the rim. AD grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds, providing a key boost to the Lakers’ defense.

Although LeBron James and Co. didn’t get much help from AD in terms of playmaking (just 3 assists), his 21-point contribution was crucial in helping the Lakers get back on track. As for Ja Morant? By the end of the game, he was left in disbelief. Davis made it clear that Ja had messed with the wrong person.
