Will Curry and Durant lead Team USA to glory again, or is it time for new heroes?

The journey of Stephen Curry to the Olympics was equal parts emotional and historic, marking his first time representing Team USA on the international stage. There’s no two ways about the fact that for all of us, it was a long-awaited dream to see the NBA superstar don the red, white, and blue alongside some of the best players in the world.

While his debut didn’t come without its hurdles, it ultimately ended in triumph, as his late-game heroics helped secure a gold medal for Team USA. Now, as Curry reflects on this significant achievement, he is already thinking ahead about the possibility of future Olympic appearances—and what that might look like.

Reflecting on his time at Paris with ‘Team Avengers,’ the Warriors superstar expressed interest in potentially competing again in the Olympics. “Never say never. For me, I am in a position where if it makes sense, I would love to do it again,” Curry shared. His comments came after he spoke about the unmatched experience of representing his country on the global stage. Particularly, the emotional moments during the opening ceremony and walking with Team USA like a true patriot.

In fact, his voice took on an excited note as soon as he started talking about the boat journey. “The Olympics is unlike any other sporting event that I have ever been a part of just because being part of that entire team, Team USA, like us on that boat? In the opening ceremony? Like Captain America with the flag, we are all behind and like, whatever, you know?” Curry recalled, emphasizing the pride and unity that come with competing in the Olympics.

Here, though, is the most interesting part! I think it would be awesome to do it again. I don’t know what four years from now looks like. But hopefully, it’s a conversation,” he said, to loud cheers from the crowd, no doubt already excited to watch the 4x champion with his insane Golden Dagger or, as one fan described, the kiss of death – Nuit Nuit.

Although he said it in a way that left his future participation still up in the air, it was enough to leave us hopeful of a potential return for the 2028 Olympics. Interestingly, this comes just two months after Kevin Durant declared his intention about the Olympics.

Kevin Durant gives update on 2028 Olympic availability ahead of Stephen Curry

Kevin Durant, USA Basketball’s all-time leading scorer, isn’t committing to the 2028 Olympics just yet, even after securing his fourth gold medal with a dominant win over France in the gold medal game. When asked about the chances of seeing him suit up in 2028, he answered with a cautious, “We’ll see.” That was KD leaving the door open, without promising anything, and living rent-free in our heads.

At 39, Durant would be in a similar position to LeBron James this year, balancing his future with the realities of aging. But with the lure of competing at home, the possibility remains intriguing. The ‘Slim Reaper’ has been a constant presence for Team USA since 2012. Despite his age, the man averaged  13.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists, contributing 15 points for the gold medal win.

Though his role shifted on a star-studded team, Durant made history as the first men’s player to win four Olympic golds. And he continues to be a key figure in the conversation about Team USA’s future. With 2028 still on the horizon, all eyes will be on the 2x Finals MVP to see if he decides to make one more Olympic run at home. The same can be said of Stephen Curry.
